Show Page HERALD, Provo, Utah, Wednesday, October 6. 12-- THE 1982 Brewers Activate Rollie - MILWAUKEE (UPI) Ace reliever Roiiie Fingers, out since Sept. 2 with a torn muscle in his pitching arm, is back on the Milwaukee Brewers' roster and "healthy enough to get a couple of hitters," said manager Harvey Kuenn. But second baseman Jim Gantner was fitted for a rib brace Monday and was doubtful tor tonight's opene Ameriing game in the can League playoff with the California Angels. Gantner has a rib separation, suffering the injury in practice before Sunday's Eastern Division title game against Baltimore. He did not play. If Gantner is unable to play, he will be replaced by Ed Romero. Fingers, who has 29 saves this season, told Kuenn Sunday he could have pitched to one or two Baltimore hitters if he was needed. "He's healthly enough to get a couple of hitters," Kuenn said at a Monday news conference. "He has best-of-fiv- thrown well in the pen. There's still in the arm, but if we had to have him, would have him for a hitter or two." To make room for Fingers on the playoff roster, the Brewers took off Jamie Easterly, who has been bothered by knee problems. The Brewers were told Monday the American League will look into an incident in Kansas City Sunday that could have helped give the batting title to the Royals' Willie Wilson instead of the Brewers' Robin Vount. Wilson edged Yount by less than one point, .332 to .331. "We will look into it," said Bob Fischel, assistant to the league president. "It has happened be- Yount was batting in the ninth at Baltimore at the same moment and was hit by a pitch by Dennis Martinez. That meant Wilson did not have to come up. a little tightness "I was buying time for Wilson," Martin was quoted as saying. The Royals, including Wilson, denied calling Martin, although Wilson admitted he had checked with the press box to see how Yount was doing. Brewer General Manager Harry Dalton said he was not aware of the story. "I can't say a lot but my basic approach is that titles are a reflection of performance, not performance for individual titles. "The classic is Ted Williams in 1941," Dalton said, the year the fore." Fischel referred to a report that former Boston Red Sox great batOakland Manager Billy Martin vis- ted .406. ited the mound for five minutes in "He could have sat out both ends the ninth inning to see if Wilson, of a doubleheader. But he went 6 who didn't play, needed an at-bto for 8. Something like that gives you reason to be proud of the record." win the title. left-hand- am - - - 12 flfJTI-FREEZ- 1, Justin Nelson; 2, Clint Lt t Moil-I- Gridders Nominated For Honors BYU I !
