Sue Harris and Ruth Amesquita are the first graduates of the program, which was initiated during the winter semester of 1975 with Dr. Camilla Wood as director. Four areas of clinical specialization are offered, including family nursing, cardiovascular, neurological and oncological nursing. Both Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Amesquita have specialized in the area of family nurse practitioners, which Dr. Wood said is the most popular. Clinical areas of training for the specialty include pediatrics and adolescent; maternal, newborn and illness, and gynecology; geriatrics and long-terdelivery of health care in the community. Dr. Wood said courses in these subjects are in addition to core courses and either a project or a thesis. A geriatric clinic was established in, Springville by Mrs. Harris as her project. Equipment and supplies for the clinic are furnished by the senior citizens, the Kiwanis club and the city, with BYU supplying personnel on a continuing basis, Dr. Wood reported. Mrs. Harris will join the BYU nursing faculty and direct the clinic. Mrs. Amesquita wrote a thesis on the effect of mixing insulins. and The progam has received a considerable amount of participation from area physicians, said Dr. Wood. She explained that doctors take students on hospital rounds and provide them with experience in understanding their evaluation and treatment of pathology. "A masters degree is really essential for nurses to achieve leadership positions in the field of health care." Dr. Wood said. "Nursing is going to play a much more important role in the delivery of health care services, and graduates from this program will be able to move forward the expanded role of the nurse," she predicted. short-actin- it stressed In return, the contractors would provide Iran with 300 F16 jetfighters and up to 255 stated.
