The weather yesterday was beautiful. To morrow will be St. Valentine day. The tyrant Death still stalks in our city. Not much work for the police at present. The "Mormon" Panorama is draw- ing immensely. The temperance excitement still pervades Salt Lake. Reformer McKenzie is soon to visit the hub of Utah. Advertise in the Junction, the newspaper of the people. The merchants are commencing to work up their spring trade. And now Utah is to have another County, to be called Emery. The party in the Fourth Ward tonight will be largely attended. Work on the Utah Southern ex tension is proceeding rapidly. Nights and moraings cold, but spring cometh again during the day. The Colville Burlesque troupe will entertain this village on the 16th. F. J. Cannon, Esq., editor of the Logan Leader, was in town yesterday. No clue yet to the perpetrators of the recent burglary at Stanford s store. Bishop T. R. Cutler, of Lehi, re cently lost a fine little girl through fever. Salt Lake is now happy. She had one or two good runaways on Wed nesday. t The February term of the Fourth District court (Nevada) has com wenced. The election in Provo a few days aince went oft in a quiet and respectable manner. The Ogden Brass band will give you a good time at Union Opera House The Prove Enquirer hopes to be enabled tojsurvive without raising its subscription price. Mr. S. P.Tbasdel properietor of the Eagle House, Salt Lak, started east yesterday morning. A large number of friends assent bled at the funeral of Willard, son of Jos. A. and Josephine West, yesterday. An f xchange says that a Miss Sally Brown, of San Jose, was wooed and won by George Mander, and Sally is now George's Sally Mander. A pest house in the vicinity of Virginia City, Nev., has been gutted by some person possessed of more cupidity than fear of contagion. Wb acknowledge the kindness of of Mr. J. W. McNutt in'the presentation of a box of genuine Ilavanas. It didn't make us "shake" to carry them, Mac! The Panorama. Last evening Mr. Christensen gave another exhibition of his "Mormon" panorama at the Second Ward echoolhouse. The attendance was good, and to say that every one who witnessed the show was delighted, would be superfluous. This panorama is taking immensely here, and the probabilities are that the proprietor wil' have to give more ex- i.fgone condition. 'I'll tell you, Tom," remasked Harry, in a sorrow ful tone. "You remember my aged grandma a very good old lady of seventy she hasn't missed church for thirty years, she says, (though I doubt it). Well, I went to see her this morning. She, as usual, was in a very sanotimomeus tram of mind, and commenced haranguing me on m v religious and moral du ties. ' Harry,' she said, .'you must attend church; look more to your religion, :or if you wish your attentions to tiie charming orgaaist, Isabella Pequot,. with whom I am sure you are fascinated to the successful, you must atteid the church in which she per forms. You know, Harry, it could not reasonably be supposed that a person oF ber high standing and re-lgious qualities would, under any :onsideration, lavor the suit of an unreligious person.' Tom, this was the style in which I was entertained. You mi-- ht imagine theetiect that it n ould have; but when she mentioned the name of my adorable Isabella, human nature was conquered: 1 was completely converted. I tbere and then made a solemn compact with myself to attend every church in which I would be enabled to catch a elimpse of her whom my soul adores. I told grandma I'd reform, which seemed to please her very much. After leaving her, and rambling about for some time my thoughts dwelliag alternately on grandma and Isabella I found night fast approaching, and forthwith made elaborate preparations tor attending the church this evening. Ah! Tom, here I is where misfortune commenced. started very early punctuality being ese of my favorite maxims, and wishing to make a good beginning, at all evsnts. As 1 entered the building I found it as yet unllchted: so selecting what I thought to be a nice seat, sat down, thinking now 'Jerusalem I I'm extremely com caught!' I ejaculated, with a screech loud enough to wake tne dead, wnue I wiggled and twisted, emitting with each twist a whoop that would have done oredit to a Mohawk, But it was of no avail. I was completely fastened." "Poor Harry!" remarked Tom. But. resumed Harry, by an extraor dinary effort, and with the sacrifice of a nortion of my pan taloons, I was at last extricated. Upon examina tion I found I had merely been caught in a wide crack in the bench. L took particular pains to examine well some of the next seats; and, after some time, found one free of cracks or nail heads, and gently sat down. I now silently gazed through the gathering gloom at the fixings of the church, and I wondered to see what a fine appearance they presented. True, it was rather dark, but still I could see the great differs ence existing between them and the late benches. The very ropes that in place seemed held the stove-pipto be surrounded with a fringe of what might, perhaps, be silk, though I was uncertain. The stove itself seemed different to any I had ever seen. But the beautiful appearance of the walla and ceiling surpassed The even my wildest imagination. walls! What a fine color! A dark drab! A calciminer ef extraordinary skill must have performed here! The drapery on the ceiling took my fancy though. One of the windows being raised the evening zephyrs auietlv stele in, and cently fanned the substance till it presented to my wandering vision the charming reg ularity of waves upon a becalmed sea. From the drapery some sub stance was continually tailing: it covered my whole apparel: the very very air seemed laden with it, What this substance was, or of what the drapery was composed, I had not the least idea; but, upon consideration, I remembered having read in an old story book, of a temple; the ceiling of it was covered with silk tapestry; and at regular intervals were inter posed beautiful tassels, containing the power of a highly perfumed root, which, by a curious arrangement, allowed the contents to pass slowly into the tne surrounding air Not knowing but this ancient, idea had been modernized; and brought into requisition here, I took no notice of the substance that was steadily covering my person. So I leaned back, crossed my legs, 'and closed my eyes to keep them from w ae e neat, and tidy people the owners of this church must bel W uat an eye to beauty they have! Here are a people having a fit shrne for the most humble worshipper to hold communion with his maker! My thoughts were here interrupted by the entrance of a person, who im mediately commenced knocking things aoont in a lively manner. They have a noisy deaconf thought I the person, after making a fire, started lighting up. Now, I mused, "I'll find out the secret of this mystery." I closed my eyes thinking to wait until the place was completely lighted; so as to take in the whole beauty at once, and after a sufficient time suddenly opened them. Tom what a night met my gase!
