We learn from the Salt Lake papers the particulars of tho attack on the j til, and rescue of the soldier who was arretted for the brutal assault on Sol. P. McCur- - Judge of tbe Supreme dy, Court ia ihe Territory of Utah. Yesterday morning Lieut. Dinwiddie formally demanded ef Justice Clinton the release of Thomas Hackett. Tbe case of the soldier bad not come before the Justice officially, so he had nothing to do with the affair. Subsequently Hackett. was charged with assaul ing Ju3ge McCurdy, but declared he didn't know anything about the matter. He was remanded till next day, the complainant,, represented by Judge Snow, not being able to appear. About noon, Major Gordon arrired at the City Hall with his company of cavalry, who dismounted and loaded their carbines. Gov. Woods was running round tbe building in a state of nervous excitement and enquiring for "Pony Duncan. Officer Hampton was in the hall and the Major demanded the release of the soldier. Mr. Hampton bad nothing to do with the hall or jail, so could not do anything in the premises. Bort of battering ram was then pro cured,, Belonging to the Fire Brigade, and a portion of tho company tried to break in the door pf the jail, but failed. They then seized some other tackle belonging to the Fire Department, and pulled out some of the iron grating, go that Hackett could crawl through. This tremendous victory being gained, the troops commenced hooting and yelling, and throwing up their caps, as though they had triumphed in a remarkable en gagement. Tb officer in command performed an . eiceedingly gallant ac',. Seizing a car bine from one of bis men, he went to the sleeping room of the Fire Department adjoinirg the City Hall, and using .language more forcible than po lite, cocked and presented his guu and told Mr. Higgs, who was sitting there, to "git." - Higgs did get, with alacrity. Hie crowd .ct soldiers returned , to camp; with their sorry looking comrade, snouting ana yelling, ana themselves more tike a bund of noble red men en a'bust," than trainedfand disciplined soldiers oflhe army of the -- "l,)T vrhitft, Onlv a baby, Wbo bright haad Lie pillowed iu a Coffiu bed. g BMT&la WALKER aiTid Only a baby Laid to reat, A way from bom and Mother'! brwirt. .What a treasonable, rebellious and disloyal set of "Mormon" Legislators were they, who passed the Act giving to the women of Utah the right of suffrage, and embodying the principle enunciated above by the Attorney G cneral of tho United States !
