U ' A letter received from Mr, .Bancroft, Minister to Berlin, says that the peoplo of Germany are watching with profound interest the course of Congress in reference to finances. This is natural considering the inti mate commercial relations existing between Cermany and this country. A vast interest is held by the Germans in our bonds and securities. It is true that grave cause has been given to excite a feeling of distrust abroad in cur railroad bonds, owing to flagrant abuses by corrupt combi-mi- ti his. Yet, the fact is undeniable that American credit has been ordinarily well maintained in foreign lauds, and fewer defaults have occurred in our securities than among any others which are the subject of investment. At this tiroo a species of inflation exists in Europe, which has already begun to communicate its buoyant influence to this side of the Atlantic. The inonied institutions of Germany are- freighted with the gold and silver aecumulated aa the result of the payment of the war indemnity. England the financial centre of the world is tverrun with applications for new loans, and everywhere on among the great money markets,, there exists a condition of affairs resultant from a complement to their coffers of capital. Franco is comparatively easy, and the hoards f the peasantry so long locked up have been released. It is reasonable, therefore, that amid this extraordinary excess of capital, large amounts should find their way to this country to be invested in paying dividends. One difficulty is in the way of realizing the advantages offered by the influx of foreign capital, which will eauretothe benefit of the country. the Continent, I OUR NEW BUILDING, fre-ide- L L IECIe OIE1 S G-OOID- d UNPRECEDENTED REDUCTION. It is emphatically the organ of the people in the best sense of that term, believing in the fullest protection of the rights of the many against the encroachments of the few. It believes that all chartered corporations should be held to be sub servient to the power that created them, and without an infringment of the just rights of others it insists, and will continue to insist, that all corporations enjoying special privileges voted to them by the people shall serve them fairly and justly ata compensation allowing a reasonable profit upon the actual capital employed.
