When approaching that city, the prisoner was handcuffed, and in protesting against the humiliation to which he was subjected, broke into tears. The train arrived in Chicago, and an officer of that city, acting under proper authority, arrested the Detroit detective and handcuffed him with Whitney. They were then marched off to jail. The cause of the arrest of the .officer who had Whitney in his custody is supposed to be for making an illegal arrest. . A hearing of his case was postponed for a week. Aside from the irregularity of the proceeding commenced against Mr. Whitney, who was arrested according to all the information we have, without a warrant or requisition, a very serious of fence has been commenced by this detective against the people of this Territory. The charges of fraud and malpractice preferred against Mr. Whitney should have been tried where the alleecd crimes were committed that is in Utah. If a requisition had been is sued by the Governor of Michigan upon the Governor of this Territory (of which there is no evidence,) his arrest should have been made by a resident officer. Gov.
