LA few winters ago there was a g neral complaint throughout the northern and middle States that the quails were entirely destroyed in these sections, through the eeverity of the season. Measures were taken to the cojntry, and rigid kws were adopted for their 'protection. In that instance, an ounce of protection proved to be worth a pound of cure. The plan adopted to prevent their destruction and suffering during the winter, was very simple. Stakes were driven in the ground about ten feet apart, and a foot or two in height, then poles were laid across them and coveree with brush and leaves. Grain was thrown tinder and around to entice them to this covering, then when a heavy storm occured they would resort to it as a shelter as well as a feeding place. The resuli of these precautions fully compensated for the trouble. The number given is - Utah Quail Rkarixg.
