The ugar finance committee's price on raw, Cuban sugar for prompt delivery was reduced this week" to 2.25 cents a pound, cost and freight, equivalent to S.86 cents duty landed. The committee is proceeding with plans; for terminating Its activities at the end of the year and apparently has adopted the policy of gradually reducing Its spot price to an equality with new crop quotations, which now stand at 2 cents, cost and freight, for January delivery. Atlantic seaboard refiners reduced their wholesale quotations on refined sugar to a basis of 5.10 cents a pound at the close of the week. The movement of refined in this section is light, however, as. the business of eastern refiners Is restricted to a narrow strip of nearby territory. The markets of the central and western states are being supplied principally with homegrown sugar, both cane and. beet, on a basis of 4. ft fio 5 ceata, or 10 to 20 points below the eastern refiners' quotations. Reports have been in circulation that some action for the further regulation of the sugar situation was contemplated In Washington, but these reports have now been authoritatively denied by an official of the administration. It is stated that the government feels that increased and decreased production consumption will lead to & gradual recovery cf prices from their present depressed state and that interference by the government In the situation would be unwise and unwarranted at this time.. A cable from Havana to Facts About Sugar contains the Information that a bill has been introduced in the Cuban senate limiting the production of sugar by any mill In Cuba during the coming season to 65 per cent of its last year's outpuL If adopted, this will limit the coming Cuban to approximately 2.600,000 tons, crop as an. output of nearly 4,000,000 against tons during the past season.
