Some time last evening, after dark, tbe vicinity of the Nicolls House, near the railroad station at Womelsdorf, was the scene of intense excitement, cansed by the fact that a desperate effort bad been made to outrage the person of a very respectable young lady residing at the village of Womelsdorf, and that the manager of the above hotel, who went to the rescue of the girl, was stabbed, it was thought, by the desperate ruffians. The report spread rapidly, and in a short time the news reached tke borough proper, and & great many people rushed over the road to the scene of the occurrence. Information at band this morning, recounts the following shameful details : Miss Ada Shartle, daughter of Jacob Shartle, is a young lady of quite prepossessing appearance, about sixteen years of age, and resides with her parents in Womelsdorf, above the William Penn She is comparatively small in Hotel. has black hair and dark eyes, stature, and has always been recognized as a very respectable young lady. She was visiting some friends at the Nicolls House, and all went well up to the time of the shameful occurrence. The races were over for the day, and with the exception of several foreigu horsemen, aud their attendant hostlers an! jockeys, together with a few other strangers who were interested in the races ef the place was comparatively quiet. Is some unaccountable manner two young men named Fleninger and Hemming, frortt city, who had been working for Reading horsemen during the races, succeeded in forcibly carrying young Miss Shartle from the hotel to the rear end of the lot, and thence into a box stall connected with the stable of the hotel, when one, it is supposed, held her inoulh shut, and the other proceeded to divest her entirely of her "clothing. The young girl struggled desperately, and before the heartless villains eonld succeed in what they had undertaken she freed herself from their grasp, and screamed at the top of her voice for help. Isaac Kintser, better knows as 'Squire Kintier, is the manager of the Nicolls House, and he heard the smothered cries of the strugglingyoung girl. Rushing to the place from whence they came, he forced his way to the stall and discovered the terrible situation of Miss Shartle. Without losing a moment he dashed in among them, fought the villains, down, but before he could rescue the girl the desperadoes pulled out a knife and stabbed Mr. Kintier several times in the arm and body, and then . .ft made their escape. .,.; The young girl, as may be imagined, was very nearly frightened, to death, but other than that she was not hurt or injured. ' Tha wounds of Mr.'Kin'txer wre attended to. The matter it now is the hands of detective Lyonf but as yet no arrests have been made. to-da- y, ! R. R. R.
