Of all the plans devised for the Colonization of the sparsely settled 'districts of this great country, none have been anything like so successful as those pursued by the Perpetual Emigration Fund Company. y means of this Fund in the hands of "Mormon" missionaries, many thousands of poor people have been gathered to the vales of Utah, where tliey have had an opportunity of rendering themselves comparatively independent. When they have, by industry and economy, obtained sufficient of this world's goods to make them comfortable, they are required to return to the Fund the means advanced to them, that others may similar favors, and the work of gathering the poor be perpetuated.
