A store, established at New Elizabeth, Jersey, about a year ago, has proved highly successful.. The original capital was $250; subscribed by twenty-fiv- e members, in $10 each. Tho dividends on the purchase and on the stock were allowed tp remain ag additional capital, and pn settling up the books pf the asspciation, aftep a year's existence, showed a stuck of goods and moriev valued at $760, an inorease of 200 per pent, on the original capital. So far as it has been adopted in Utah, has been a complete success. The price of merchandise has been re duced to a very considerable extent, and, at the same time, those who have invested means in the institutions which have been established in almost every town in the Territory, have received a good interest on their invest ments, and, in many places, a greater per centage than could have been obtained by any other proper employment of their capital. OCDEX, UTAH. Wednesday Morning, Feb. 18, 1870, The subject of industrial is being agitated to a considerable extent in Nev York, and other leading cities in the United States. Qf course capitalists consider it opposed to true commercial principle; wnion means, opposed to their private interests ; true commercial principles being those which tend to fill their nVoney.' The working-me- n of America have not as jet adopted the principle of very exfrom 'deterred tensively, being uniting ihoir means by lack of confidence in each other ; but in Great Britian, France nn J Otiiicuny it is rapidly, gaining ground, having been thoroughly tested and found practicable apd beneficial. England was first sucin Rochdale ; cessfully commenced since known a men whgre dojen working as ilia .llochdal Pioneers, entered into a partnership for the purpose of obtaining provisions at a reasonable price, and of ' inducing their fallow workmen to unite in breaking down monopoly. Cm the 21st of December, 1844, they store and compponed thpjr 'business menced on a capital, of $7i the balance of $135 with, which they paid rent and fitted up their modern establishment The evening of the opening was- a very momentous one to them. Tlie shop keepers of ;tHe town, together with the gamin, gathered in front of the ptore. hooting and jelling, and making define comments1 tpon the stock and the stockholders. But they, heeding not, eontlhu'ed their course, "and their example has led to the establishment Of siiuiltkrtorprwes England. The success which attended the Rochdale establishments naturally attracted the attention of wojkingmen in other towns, and induced them to try what tliey pould do, . Societies sprung up in all directions, and there are now. in Groat Britain about five hundred associations, with, an aggregate liieuibwfiuip of. 110,000 and 200,000 cooperative stoves with a working capital cf $10,000,000. on which they do a busi-ne- si of $50,000,006 anhually. The house was crowded. The drama selected for the occasion was "The Bottle.'' The character of Richard Thornley was rendered with great effect and 'good taste by Mr. Wm. S. Lewis. Dognose was faithfully represented by Mr. Wm. Godfrey. Mr. John Jones has almost immortalized himself as "Coddles," he caused great merriment by his drollery, and js naturally comic. We may say the same of Mr. Edw. Wado, who acted "Spike tho Broker" very faithfully. Mr. Wm. Garner rendered the serious and important character, pf Mr. George Grey very creditably. Chas. Thornton seemed to be moulded for a smart soldier, and Mr. A. Chad-wicjun. for a policeman. The female characters were also well sustained. Miss R. Verrison, as Thornley's wife, made quite a sensation. Miss Viola Cazier was a dashing Kitty Crump, and really made everybody happy. Miss M. A. Ellis, as Esther Clare, the young milliner, displayed m.uch talent. The "Bottle" went eff first rate, considering that the actors were all amateurs, and that it was their first effort. The drama was followed by songs from Miss R. Eerrispn, Misji A. Ellis and Mr. Wardleigh. The afterpiece was th,o farce of "The Toodles." Mr. Wardl, cigh as "Toodles" made plenty pf fun and plainly demonstrated that he was more than an ama teur. Wo may sny the same of Miss Crandall, who acted Mrs. Toqdlea., Mr. Kerry Berrct made a dashing sailor, Miss S. Mecham looked lovely as his bride, and Mr. Dudman as her father, displayed good judgment and gentlemanly deportment. Messrs. R. Berrett, S. Berrett, J. Berrett and others, supported the other characters, but we cannot say that "The Toodles" can not be improved upon. We have no doubt it will, ' and the amateur actors of North Ogden doubtless will continue to. improve and prosper. Mr. Bexj. Cazier bas spared no expense or pain In getting up his dramatic company and preparing a good stnge, scenery, etc., and he has been ably supported by all the members of the com' pany. is North Truly, Ogden prospering, A is in band brass tmbrio, and wo shall be w hen we can officially announce its glad coming forth.. Professor Ellis, tiphoir inleader, is well versed in voco,l strumental music, nnd there are a few more in North Ogden who have had some experience in brass instruments, and who will sustain him."
