Show THE SENTINEL Page 2 Thursday, Aug. 23,1 984 No need to travel thousands of miles to get that Swiss flavor when a few short minutes will put you there in the midst of it all at the Midway Town Square, where our annual Swiss Days celebration will be in full swing, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. This ethnic festival has become a tradition and a "must do" for Utahns who the costumes, appreciate dancing, music and food in a congenial atmosphere. Nestled at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains in beautiful Heber Valley, Midway is a small jewel of a town only 30 minutes from Provo and an hour southeast of Salt Lake City. Centered around the charming chalet style town hall, the festivities include an auction, two parades (6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday), yodelers Anna Rindlisbacher and Arthur Brogli, accordianist and vocalist Janet Todd, the Heidi Puppet Show and the Midway Children's Chorus. For those who are looking for a special gift or souvenir, the a Swiss Market provides dazzling array of Swiss items and imported the booths at Food products. Swiss Market offer cheese, bread, sauerkraut, sausage and delectable Swiss pastries as well as such American fare as hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. An chuckwagon breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday morning and an authentic Western pit 600 with pounds of barbeque underprime beef ground all day to tender perfection, is served with all the fixings at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The 10,000 meter run through the countryside beginning at 8 is another a.m. Saturday popular feature as is the special musical program performed both nights at 7:30 p.m. in the town hall. Then top off the evening with a little bit of with the Teen Dance in the town hall on Friday night and an Adult Dance Saturday night with music provided by Horst Fidel and the Bavarians. Hosted by the Midway Boosters Club, Swiss Days is a celebration of Swiss heritage Midway's designed to provide a unique festival for its citizens and their guests. October entries being invited in museum's nature photo show Amateur and professional photographers are invited by the Utah Museum of Natural History to prepare their work for entry this fall in a nature photography show at the museum to be juried by Eliot Porter, one of the grand masters of nature art photography. In connection with the show, Porter will teach an advanced outdoor photography workshop Oct. 6. Entries for the show, "A Naturalist's View," will be accepted at the museum Oct. and those juried into the show by Porter will be on exhibit Oct. 7 through Nov. 11. Also on exhibit will be a selection of 10 of Porter's own dye transfer color prints. Photographs entered may be color or black and white taken anywhere in the world, but they must "focus on the natural ' environment, free from human intervention." Entries must be prints framed in glass or plexiglass ready for hanging, and frame size may not exceed 20 by 30 inches. Entry is $5 per photographer and each may enter two photographs.
