Show THE SENTINEL Page 8 Thursday, Aug. 9,1 984 Daniel Clem Jordan District drivers place in Bus Roadeo takes NASA post in Texas Daniel Lee Clem was awarded a Master of Science degree in aeronautics and astronautics with emphasis on space craft design and control theory by the of of School Engineering 17. June Stanford University, Clem is a graduate of Hillcrest High School where he was a member of the National Honor U - 1- Society. Previous to acceptance by Stanford he graduated with honors Magna Cum Laude from the University of Houston with a mechanical in degree he also where engineering honors in the participated program. Clem will begin employment with NASA in August at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Tex. He has worked previously at that facility in the summer intern program for two successive years. Daniel Lee Clem He has also persued a military interest and graduated in 1982 from the Army Officer's Candidate School. This past summer he graduated for the Army Officer's Engineering School near Washington, D.C. In addition to his new employment he will be serving as a 2ndLt. in the Texas National Guard. He is the son of Mr and Mrs F. Wesley Clem, 10354 Serpentine Circle, Sandy, His father is Pastor of the Berean Baptist Church. Dr. Burgon attends Denver conference Dr. Vance E. On Lights Not Two Utah school bus drivers placed in the top ten in the 14th annual National School Bus Roadeo held this month in Anchorage, Alaska. Jay Webb scored 544 points, earning an overall third place with Calvin Allen placing ninth with 502 points. Both are school bus drivers for Jordan School District. The winner, Alex MacDonald, from Bellingham, Washington," scored 560 points, and outscored ninety-nin- e other drivers from 23 states across the nation. The event is sponsored by the National School Transportation Association and is designed to recognize excellence in school bus driving, as well as to allow contestants the opportunity to the skills and demonstrate responsible performance of their demanding jobs. Drivers were judged on driving skills on a difficult a written course, ground examination on rides of the road for pupil transportation and their ability to judge defects in school buses which would not pass the "daily inspection" of the driver. Annually, half of the nation's school bus drivers 440,000 participate in local, state, regional, and divisional road-e-o- s with the winners competing in this national event. These drivers consistently hold in check the number of injuries and fatalities to the nation's 23 children school million passengers who are transported to and from school and school activities daily.
