Sid Fred Kotter ORTHOTICS: NEW LIFE FOR YOUR FEET Surprised when your podiatrist says a good part of your back trouble, hip pain, neck stiffness, or knee clicking may be related to poor foot function? You may have a functional shortening of one leg; that is, the foot "flattens" itself, dropping your ankle closer to the ground. Stress tires muscles, throws joints out of kilter. Help is available through a podia-trisports medicine-developemethod called biomechanics, working with orthotic devices. Foot impressions taken in the position of optimum function capture angular relationships be- - tween various segments ot eacn foot. Orthotic inserts are contoured and angled over those models. Prescribed by your podiatrist, these inserts correct abnormal motion, eliminate jarring, ease troublesome symptoms that may have their beginnings in your feet. The Eighth Annual All Breed Competitive Ride is July 28 at Black Hawk Campgrounds, 17 miles up Payson Canyon. This equine event has been originated and made a yearly activity by the Utah Arabian Horse Club. A competitive ride is not a race. It is a contest which rewards the rider for skills in horsemanship and the horse for its athletic ability. Horses are checked in the afternoon before ride qualified the by veternarians and experienced pulse and respitory teams. Horses are again examined at the start of competition, during the ride, and at the finish. The ride is timed and competitors must come in not earlier than 15 minutes or later than 15 minutes of the specified limit. Trails are well marked and wind through the beautiful Mt. Nebo area.
