Beardall, president and CEO of Anderson Lumber, the awards e included two bronze one for "honor" and plaques bronze plaque award of "merit." A national business publication, Home Center Magazine, sponsors the competition, which is open to approximately 26,000 home centers throughout the United States and Canada. Purpose of the awards is to first-plac- outstanding recognize accomplishments in the $50 billion home center industry. Only 17 home center retailers received the coveted awards this year. Except for Anderson Lumber, no company captured more than one Home Center of the Year plaque. Even more extraordinary, the awards won by Anderson lumber were the first given to any home center in the entire Intermountain West in the last five years. Anderson Lumber received an award of honor in the Special Departments category for its Answer House and Answer Clinic, both of which were designed to educate customers. Another honor award was won in the re Interior and Exterior Design category for efforts to create a shopping atmosphere in which feel they can get the help they need for home The projects. improvement merit award was in the Total Home Center category for Anderson's $2.5 million West Jordan facility. The store, opened in July 1983, offers a phenomenal 31,000 square feet of retail floor space, a 160,000 lumber yard and a square-foo- t parking lot.
