Jesse Hunt, president of the Park City Ski and Snowboard Club, broke the club’s view of the decision down into three words. “We love it,” he said. “There’s always an incredible vibe with the Olympics, and the idea that they may return is obviously going to get us all charged back up to host the world in Park City, and reinvigorate what we had in 2002.” Hunt said hosting another Olympics would affect youth sports across the board, from participation levels, to exposure to elite athletes and access to improved world-class venues. “When you talk about facilities, people, community, inspiration for kids, on so many different levels it’s an awesome opportunity for us,” Hunt said. He said test events, where local venues cut their teeth in preparation for the Winter Games, would provide opportunities for local athletes to gain experience competing at the same venues that the best athletes in the sport use. “And there’s expertise being brought into the community to run big events like that, so the opportunity for staffing — that affects programs, affects kids,” Caddying saves green Basin Recreation keeps a busy schedule, maintaining more than 145 miles of trails for hiking, biking, dog walking and more. F t just drop everything and go caddie.” Most of his loops were what is called forecaddying, where he would lead a group of golfers and spot their drives, marking them on the fairway. But he said carrying for individuals was a more personal and satisfying experience. In particular, Hanskat recalled helping an older woman sink the perfect putt during a tournament. “I said, ‘Hit it right to this spot,’ and this other lady said, ‘Oh, you hit his spot,’ sarcastically, like she was going to miss,” Hanskat said. “Then she just drained it from 90 feet away.” Aside from technical advice, which, as a member of Park City High School’s 10th consecutive state championship golf team, Hanskat is well qualified to give, he said a caddy can make golfing more enjoyable. “It’s not just carrying the clubs, obviously,” he said. “You’re there for moral support, and to give advice, and be a good companion for the golfer, and really get to know them and make them feel comfortable out there.” MOUNTAIN DELL Mountain Dell Golf Course is available for Nordic skiing, though grooming efforts have been put on hold due to lack of snow. The C PARK RECORD FILE PHOTO Park City High School’s Jack Hanskat sets his ball back on the green and lines up his put after waiting his turn during the Region 10 Meet at the Park Meadows Country Club in the 2016 season. Hanskat says caddying is a lot more than just carrying clubs, and now it could pay for his tuition and housing. He hopes that, as the Evans Scholarship catches on among the PCHS golf athletes, more people start to support it at local clubs. “As of right now, it’s definitely a bit of a struggle,” he said. “People don’t really want to take a whole lot of caddies at Park Meadows. They figure they know the course better — granted if they have been playing here for 20, 30 years, they know the course like the back of their hand — but it would help out the scholarship a lot if more people were willing to take caddies and wanted to take caddies. And having that mental support, if you have a bad hole, your caddie can help talk you out of it and pick you back Weather SATURDAY Temperatures: SUNDAY MONDAY TUESDAY WEDNESDAY High for the week ................................ 50° Low for the week ................................. 21° Precipitation: Total for the week ............................. 0.26” ACCUWEATHER UV INDEX TM Morning flurries; cloudy, colder Plenty of sunshine A little snow in the morning; clearing Mostly sunny Mild with times of clouds and sun Winds: NW 7-14 mph Winds: SSW 7-14 mph Winds: WSW 4-8 mph Winds: SSE 4-8 mph Winds: SSW 6-12 mph 38°/21° 43°/27° 39°/21° 44°/27° 47°/31° Sat.
