Show The long range expansion plan will increase, by 1975, electric power capacity of major utility companies in Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, Colo-rado, Arizona and New Mexico more than four times the region' present capacity of 2 million kilowatt. E. M. Naughton, UP&L president, presi-dent, said "this will be the largest industrial and electrical expansion program in the area' history." Mr. Naughton said "to meet this great expansion, larger, efficient steam plants will be built to utilize the area's great reserve of coal, oil, natural gas, oil shale and, finally, fin-ally, uranium, in atom power plant. Hydro electro plant now under construction at Flaming Gorge and Glen Canyon dam site were cited a "important part of the picture." These plant eventually will be capable of producing about one million kilowatt and to thi extent will contribute to the over-all requirement re-quirement of the area," Mr. Naughton Nau-ghton (aid. Mr. Naughton explained that "to benefit the users of electricity, it is important to bring about the most efficient use of all the power plants wherever located." "To this end," he declared, "it is planned that there will be an interconnection of the various sytem through transmission trans-mission lines of great capacity." Mr. Naughton pointed out that electricity from Colorado River projects will not be available for some year. "When Colorado River power i available," he declared, "thee util ity companies, if permitted, will schedule their new generating cat pacity to coordinate with the ' 'in service' dates of Colorado river project hydro units." Mr. Naughton said UP&L' in thi regional development will be the addition, between now and 1975, of more than Vi million kilowatts, costing, at present day prices, some $625 million. Construction, for service in 1961 of 120 miles of high voltage transmission trans-mission lin between Ogden and American Falls, Ida., at a cost of $7 million was listed a another phase of Utah Power' share in the development. Other outlined, by Mr. Naughton, Naugh-ton, were completion in 1963 of the first 150,000 kilowatt unit of a steam-electric plant at Kemmerer, Wyo. This unit together with dam, reservoir, transmission lines and other facilities, will cost about $34 million. The site will have a potential poten-tial of 500,000 kilowatts. Construction of 75 miles of high voltage transmission line from Ne-phi, Ne-phi, Utah into the center of the Telluride Power Co. area at Richfield, Rich-field, Utah. This line would cost about $1.9 million and would b available as part of a transmission line to bring Glen Canyon power to the people of Utah, Participating in the conference in addition to Utah Power: representatives repre-sentatives of Arizona Public Service Co., Public Service Company of Colorado, Public Service Company of New Mexico and Wyoming division di-vision of Pacific Power and) Light Company. LONG RANGE PLANS LISTED BY POWER COMPANIES Utah Power & Light Co. this week announced it participation with four other Rocky Mountain electric companies in a $2 billion expansion program that will increase in-crease available electric power of the area by seven million kilowatts. |
