The highest peaks which surround Utah County include Mt. Nebo at 11,877 feet, Mt. Timpanogos at 11,750 feet, Lone Peak at 11,253 feet and Provo Peak at 11,068 feet. M of these mountains act to force moist air over them, which allow these spots to have an average annual precipitation of 40 to 50 inches or .more. Meanwhile, there are some very dry spots away from the mountains. Wendover averages about 4.7 inches of precipitation per year while Hanksville averages 5.4 inches. Even out along the border in Central Utah's desfrt, the Deep Creek Range has significant precipitation due to the lift from air masses that move through the area while the valleys are very dry.
