All forecasts and maps provided by AccuWeather, Inc O2004 " v Abrupt change in weather Weather history major change in the weather is expected to occur across the Intermountain Region during the next 24 hours as a cold trough of low pressure develops over the area. Some moisture from Pacific Hurricane Javier may get caught up in the flow ahead of the storm and enhance the rainfall According to the Salt Lake National Weather Service Office, "winds will become strong over Utah on Saturday ahead of this front and increase on Sunday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop along and behind the cold front on Sunday and Monday." Snow is expected to fall in the mountains down to the 6,000-folevel and temperatures are expected to drop to as much as 10 to 20 degrees below normal The storm is expected to linger over the area through at least Tuesday. A significant valley frost may occur by Tuesday night if skies clear and the air dries out. Highs next week will only be in the 50s and 60s. A What's up with the weather? DAVID JAMES answers your weather questions DJAMESHERALDEXTRA.COM C S ot Sept 18: In 1925, heavy rain in Modean produced 2.5 inches. In 1978, the earliest-eve- r recorded measurable snowfall occurred in Provo at 1.5 inches. In 2002, a cold front blew through northern Utah, depositing heavy rains in the valleys and up to 6 feet of snow in the mountains. TA Badger PRESS Some tough playing conditions cooled off Ted SAN ANTONIO Purdy on Friday. A day after matching the course record with a 61, Purdy struggled through the stifling heat to a 69 that 130, one stroke left him at behind leader Dean Wilson midway through the Texas Open. David Peoples (64), Ryan Palmer (65), John Senden (65) and J.J. Henry (67) were all at 131, one shot ahead of Scott Simpson (67) and Aaron Barber (63). Barber's round was the lowest of the day. Purdy was tied with Wilson with two holes to play, but he carded his fourth bogey of the day by hitting his tee shot over the green on the par-17th and then tooputting from 15 feet. "Because it was so hot, the ball was frying further and I misjudged some iron shots," Purdy said. "I hit a 3 ' yesterday in the middle of the green, pin high (on No. 17) and today I hit a over the green behind some trees." . Purdy played in the peak heat, which reached 97 degrees, and when the wind came up in the late afternoon. "It was kind of swirling, and you're on the hills and it's hard to determine where it's coming from," he said. By contrast, Wilson had a 65, going out early in the morning, when conditions were better at the La Can-ter- a Golf Club course in the rocky hills just north of San Antonio. The former BYU golfer opened his round with a birdie at No. 1, the event's longest hole at 665 yards, and added another on the par 4 7th. On the back nine, he had birdies on three of the first four holes before recording his only bogey, a three-pu- tt on the par-- 4 15th. He got the stroke back on 18 when he hit a within 3 feet for a birdie. "If the weather stays the same, 111 National forecast Low pressure will bring rain from eastern North Carolina to southern New England today.
