Tbe Failure Caused by tbe Deatli Of the San Diego Bank. Special to THiBtmt.J The Cheyenne National Bank closed itsjdoors after; a quiet run of an hour y. It posted a notlob announotnga temporary suspension on account of a lack of funds to meet the demands of depositors. The liabilities are $260,000, and tbe bank is solvent,; with $40,000 in exchange in Chicago and New York. The failure was caused by the death of the California Bank at San Diego, Gal. J. W, Collins was at tho head of both Institutions. I That there was trouble on tbe Coast, became known last evening. A meeting of the directors of the local concern-anall the mother hankers of the city was held, and, after an examination, the Cheyenne was f pronounced in good shape, and the conclusion reached that there would be no run. The morning papers announced the fall of the California house, and some of tbe heaviest depositors called for their money. In an hour the 45,000 cash on haud was exhausted, and the curtains were drawn.. The e'u'tiro fault rests with Collins, for his failure to notify Cashier Beard of this city that there was danger at San Diego. With this advice the bank here could have fortified ' itself, but the time for preparation for : a run was too short. The Cheyenne National certificates of deposit are being bought up by speculators, and, while there will be no resumption, all will be paid. The worst feature is that the town loans will be called in, to the inof business. Senator-JohSherman is jury a stockholder of the hank, and John Jay Knox of New York is another.
