It Is not a Distance Gaining Pass. Its Object Is To Score Whei Ntar The Goal. The Left End starta'out obliquely toward the left and then turns u ma sharply to receive. He is not the normal receiver of the ball but be used if the other two art well covered. The Line from tackle to tackle hold on this play. There is no object in their going down the Held to Interfere for If this pass Is completed t should result In a score. Therefore it is of vital importance that thi man passing the ball shonld have as much time as his team can affort blm In which to make his pass. The flight End starts straight down and then turns toward th right Into the deep territory. He should make tor the far corner of th End Zone. The No. 4 Back goes straightjdown tor a less distance and thei turns sharply toward the right Into the flat territory. He should aim ti run almost parallel o the goal line and not tar from it " The No. 1 and No. 2 Backs Protect The Passer. The No. 3 Back receives the ball from the center, starts runnin toward the right, and after selecting the man who is free tosses th ball to him. This play certainly puts it up to the defensive backs. One of the two receivers on the right Is free nearly every time and if the pass properly executed a score can be made. The play develops very quickly, the defensive back on tbi opponents' left has little time in which to choose and if he hesitates h gets neither man covered. This is especially recommended for use as a means of scoring afte touchdown under the new rule. J CspjrigM, 1912, ly These Suits are "All Wool" and consist) of some very beautiful patterns. This is also the day Bet apart for giving candy to one's wife, sweetheart, sister, mother or good friend. Nowhere in the world is the candy as good as it is in America. With characteristic efficiency American candy makers have succeeded in concocting confections which not only appeal to the eye but to the palate a well. And one of the best things about it is that nobody, even when far off the beaten paths, in small towns, or at cross-roadstores, need suffer for lack of candy. One can find fresh candy in abundant variety almost everywhere that people live. There seems to be no question as to the popularity of "National Candy Day" not only with the youngsters but with the staid grown ups, too. A person never gets too old to enjoy a bit of candy, and it might be well to include grandma and grandpa in your list of giftees on October 14. Football training went on again. in dead ernest on the JY" field this afternoon. afternoon Yesterday Coach Twftchell spent most of the time in blackboard work showing the varsity eleven what mistake they made in' the recent Aggle-B- . Y. U. game and how to rectify them. A short workout was taken after the lecture. . taken Today the men were through two hours of hard drilling on the field in the fundamentals of the game, and the practice appear ed to have a decidedly wholesome effect One thing la evident and that is the new B. Y. U. eleven has lost its fear of Its Rocky Mountain conference opponents, and that fact alona ought to make ft btg airrer ence In the outcome of next Satur day's batUe with the University of Utah team. Unless the Utah eleven Is far superior to that of the Aggies they will not ran up a score of 41 points on the "V." In their first taste of conference ball against the Roclfr Mountain conference champs the church school lads were frightened so badly that they could not adjust themselves to the simplest of foot ball situations. This fear wore off somewhat towards the latter part of the game, but it was responsible for many errors which made the score a little higher than It ought to have been. The Brigham Young university football men realize that they will be up against one of the strongest elevens in the conference when they meet the University of Utah team next Saturday on Cumming's field, but they hope to be more careful on defense and more effec tive on offense than they were in the Aggie game. Another fact which is strengthening the hope of the infants that they may hold the Red and White to a reasonable score is that Captain Paul Packard may possibly be able to play in Saturday's contest. Packard was injured in the first scrimmage of the season against the freshmen team and was not able to engager in the game against the Aggies, He Is a hard plunging back and his defense is exceptionally strong. The long e,nd runs and off tackle plays which metted the Rocky Mountain champs such big gain la t Saturday were mad' around the side which Captain Packard usually makes fairly sate Had Packard besn able to play Sat possible that many of urday, it these long- runs would have be'-checked.
