DAN lOCKHART'S BODY STAYS IN FRANCE UNTIL BROTHER'S BODY IS IDENTIFIED VI OFFICIAL ; The graves registration service, this long after the war, confesses that it is unable to identifv the body of a Provo boy who fell In the first rush of U. 8. marines at Chateau Thierry, although a year ago the service informed the parents of the boy that his body bad been identified and would be shinned to mother of the fallen heroes that the body of one of their sons, that of George, had been found and identified, but that the body of Dan was buried among the countless thousands of the "unknown dead." Mr. and Mrs. Lockhart were asked to indicate their wishes as to the burial of George's body. They asked the government to send their son's mortal remains to Provo. "So that we may visit his grave," the mother said A year went by and a neglectful government paid no further atten-toito the father and mother from whom had been taken two sons in the very flower of their manhood. About a month ago Mr. Lockhart received a letter from the commandant of the U. S. marines, informing him 4hat the body of Dan Lockhart had been found and Identified. The parents were asked if they wanted the body to remain in France or to be shipped to this city. They wrote immediately asking the government to send the body here for burial. Also they asked the commandant of the marines to send the body of George at the same time so that the two brothers might be buried here and lie forever side by side where their parents and friends might visit their graves. This request reached the U. S. marines headquarters July 26. Saturday Mr. Lockhart received the following letter from the U. S. marines corps: "My Dear Mr. and Mrs. Lockhart: "Immediately upon receipt of yot-lttetro- f July 26 last concerning the return of the remains of predated it you will advise this offlce as soqn as possible whether you wish Dan's remains held until such time as positive identification can be made in the case of George, in order that this information can be transmitted to Europe before shipment is made. "In the eVehT that this information is not received in Europe before shipment lias been effected, It is contemplated to hold the remains of Dan In a receiving vault in this country pending the return of the remains of your other son, unless you wish Dan's ' remains shipped to you upon arrival In the United States. "Regretting that the bodies of both of your sons cannot be returned at this time and trusting that favorable Information will be received In the near future looking toward of the identification George's remains, I am "Very sincerely yours, "MACKER BABB, "Ileut.
