OVER 2200 OUR BIRTHDAY thirty-sevent- semi-week- ly tri-week- e, SAVING OUR BOYS AND GIRLS. SUPPOSE in your town, you could in one year save even ten of your young people from the reformatory and thus make unnecessary the expenditure of 10x52x$6 or $3,120, tbe cost of their care not to count in the cost of their apprehension and trial; nor the cost in tears and anguish and dis--1 grace. SUPPOST you could increase the vigor and efficiency of your thousands of workers in factories, store and offices. SUPPOSE you could do something to make your rproclaim: "By George, this is the town for me!" SUPPOSE You could cause folks to take a new grip on themselves ; show new ambition, get new and bigger ideals in life by putting before them opportunities and removing old- time barriers. SUPPOSE you could make your town wholesomely fellow-riitize- - ns alive. SUPPOSE you could do something to tempt the tired f business man and the worn housewife to take up diversions tlffit' would keep them balanced, give them zest and prolong their usefulness. SUPPOST by doing this something you could give your town a reputation far and wide for being a human place to live in, a happy place, a place where the inhabitants are foil's and neighbors, Would it not be worth while doing? Would it not be worth while spending some money to it? do i " COMMUNITY . j Once there was a princa who was always a little it late. So matter bat be had to do be de- -' f until tbe layed it put it next day. tie next week, tbe next month. Always behind time, bis friends nicknamed him ''Prince Ten Minutes." One day an army invaded bis as to be principality. Tbf-ran important battle. Tbe prince wag ten minutes late. Tbe prUce late coat him bis lands, his cas-- ; tie, hi crown, his head cost him everything. Are you a Prince Ten Min- utes? Are you delaying tbe plumbing of your borne or tbe installation of better bathing equipment? Good plumbing and a good bathroom will make your castle and your lands more ralu-- , able; they will keep better beads on better bodies of you and your family. And bow about that beating plant you were going to have overhauled as soon as the fire went out? Don't be a Prince Ten Minutes. Be on time be ahead of time do it now. SERVICE with its appeal to the physi-- , the social, the intellectual, the cultural, the patriotic, the citizenship sides of life is the answer. cal, E3 C? 'IT DOINGS OF THE DUFFS MINUTC$ ly, tri-wek- r 1 i h Today The Herald celebrates its birthday, ind issues Number 1 of Volume 37. During the long existence of this newspaper the name ,ias been changed more than once, but the existence of the publication always was maintained. Few newspapers in the state have had the long life of The Herald, and fewer still have passed through the trials and troubles that have faced this newspaper in years gone by. But all these storms The Herald weathered successfully, now and then coming into close communication with the bank ruptcy court. At one time, years ago, a daily edition was launched and had a brief life; at other times it has been a and a when it wasn't a daily. On the 14th of April last The Daily Herald again entered the daily newspaper field, and thus far has shown a steady increase, both in advertising and in circulation. A weekly edition was added May 9, and this now has 300 subscribers, the list being increased every week. The Daily Herald passed the 2,000 mark in circulation to a immediately after it was changed from a daily, and now has over 2,200 circulation; on Tuesday, with he weekly, the circulation is more than 2,500 copies. The Daily Herald now has newsboy carriers at Spring-wilPayson, Spanish Fork, Lakeview, Vineyard, Snow, Orem ind on all rural postal routes out of Provo. The Daily Herald is the only newspaper published in Provo with its own carrier service in these Utah county cities; which is probably why The Daily Herald's circulation is double that of any other newspaper in the county, and approximately as large as the combined circulations of the next two largest newspapers. On this anniversary it is only fair to mention the fact that the oldest member of the staff, in point of service on The Herald, is Sam Leavitt, foreman of the mechanical department, who began his newspaper career as "devil" in the composing room twenty-fiv- e years ago. - I "rms of Subscription: Delivered by carrier. 39 cents a month; by Hf In t'tab county, ti a year; outside the county. $3..r.fl a year. , CIRCULATION I !
