Gffif! making scenes for "Steel-heart,- " the Vitagraph production which will be shown at the Princess theater on Friday and Saturday, William Duncan, star and director, had a thrilling experience which he will not soon forget. The script called for him in a combat on a rocky cliff to fall into the water with his adversary and swim the rapids. The spot selected as a location was on me Kern river, in California, where a ledge rises some twenty feet above the rapids. At the edge of this cliff Mr. Duncan and one of his players fought a real fight. Mr. Duncan insists upon realism and always believes in giving a real exhibition of boxing in fight scenes. The two players were so interested in their combat that they actually went too close to the edge of the cliff and fell into the water. Mr. Duncan broke away from the grasp of the man, while cameras clicked, and then started to breast the rapids. There were many sharp rocks in the river bed, and several of them left marks upon the actor's body. The current moved so rapidly that Duncan was forced to exert great strength in order to prevent being carried away by tne current. After an hour's battle he pulled himself up to the shore, fatigued and almost exhausted. It was fully half an hour berore ne could get his breath, and it was the next day before he was able to do any more work. He declared it was the greatest In FOR RENT 5th S.
