Four walls and a roof may make a house, but they don't make a home. A house is never a home until it is provided with conveniences and comforts. And the three first things in convenient, comfortable living are good plumbing, a good bathroom and a good heating plant. In our modern life they come first. If vou doubt thi try to rent or sell a house in which the plumbing id old and leaky, or the bathroom is worn out, or the heating plant is broken down, lry to get money for such a house from person who is looking for a home. Try it and see how little value ne places on that kind of a house. Then you will realize as never before the true dollar value of first-claplumbing and heating. Of course the Sunday dinner will not be as good a meal if father has to cook it, but that very fact will open hi eyes a bit wider to a full realization that managing a home i no rocking-chair job. Sunday all America celebrates Mother's day; even mother herself celebrates usually by treating the family to an extra fine dinner, which means considerable more work t oherself. Mothers are just that way! Here's a day set apart for mothers, and mother, like as not, is going to devote most of HER day to making it pleasant for the rest of the 1 1 cup Carnation cup butter or substitute, better made OUR GRADUATES. Today the Provo high school sends out into the world of business and domestic life thirty-seve- n young people, for soon each must "paddle his own canoe." That they have been graduated from the high school is a most important thing in their lives; of this they will be certain in future years, for, having a high school education they will be the better fitted to cope with the real struggles of earthly existence. But, for many of them today will not end their study days. The few, to whom this day means the end of study, will be the failures of tomorrow. To those who can, and will, continue their quest for a higher education, in college or out, success awaits them, in exact proportion to the energy given. Usually the difference between a failure and a success is the difference between hours spent at labor, mental and manual. That, too, is true in the search for knowledge. Those young meiv and women who may step from the high school into college have an advantage on the others, but not necessarily so, nor decidedly so. The youngster who this evening receives his high school diploma may continue his education, in field, or factory, store, or office, just as the young woman may add to her fund of knowledge while rock ing the cradle or baking the bread. So, then, you young men and women, who cannot enter college, do not, we urge, call today the "finish of study." And for the rest of you, who now face college, and this is said to all the graduates of all Utah county high schools, there is in this county a university the peer of any in the west, and which will give you a higher education and give it to you in the best possible atmosphere, a city clean, physically and morally the Brigham Young university. Provo and the Young university have as their guests to li morrow the athletes of the three universities of the state, Undoubtedly these young men represent the very best of the Foung manhood in the state. That they are physically fit md full of vitality is evidenced from the fact that they rep- esent their respective schools in the annual athletic events, iVithin the next few years most, if not all, of these men will e the leaders in the state in the industries and professions, The lessons learned in the athletic activities should be as valuable to these young men as those they have received from their various book studies. The athletic contests in which they have participated all men must have given them the necessary have m order to succeed in the real contests of life. They have acquired grit and determination, and have learned the value of hard work and the reward that comes when putting every atom of strength and energy into that work, especially when hard pressed. They have learned that when a thing is started it must be carried to a conclusion. Above all they have acquired the habit of fair play and have learned the necessity of giving their competitors a square deal. The joy and satisfaction that have come to them through giving their time and effort to their schools have deeply impressed upon them the fact that the greatest happi ness is gained through service freely and ungrudgingly given. jwu iy uvJ LiJ SATURDAY MORNING SPECIALS 10 lbs.
