Today a new newspaper makes its appearance in Utah county. This is The Weekly Herald edited by Gunnar Ras- ; muson, and published from The Daily Herald plant in Provo. Application has been made to the U. S. postoffice depart- : ment for second-clas- s mail privilege for the new publication, and circulation solicitors already are canvassing among the farmers of the county. According to the announcement made yesterday in The Daily Herald no attempt will be made in the cities of Utah county to solicit for subscriptions, although persons residing in these cities may get the weekly by mail if they wish it. The prime purpose is to reach readers on farms and in small rural communities where not enough subscribers for The Daily Herald can be obtained to make it worth while to have a carrier in those towns. ft The price of The Weekly Herald will be $1 the year, in I; ii advance. It may be explained that The Daily Herald and The Weekly Herald will be two separate and distinct newspapers, each with its own circulation, and with separate legal existences. When The Weekly Herald's circulation is large enough advertising for it alone will be received, but until then advertisers in the Daily may have this added circulation without extra cost to them. r freight la these strenuous days " of we have got to have the when half the people's goin track back-W- hen and half Granny and the children ?ets the taste fer higher speed, I reckon that a better road's the ever--; lastin' need. . . . OWN U.VCLE man who was wandering from place unemployed to place in search of work to return to his home and friends, where he would be more apt to find 'employment. vThe idea seemed a good one and was given nation-wid- e publicity. Mr. MacNider agreed to present nine communities in each state certificates for meritorious work in connection with the Legion's nation-wid- e campaign, to give every unemployed veteran of the world war a job, and with the start of the drive urged each community to do its duty in taking care of its own. The Provo post of the American Legion was the first post in the state of Utah to report 100 per cent employment among the veterans of the great war, thereby winning the coveted certificate from national headquarters of the American Legion, which was presented to the city of Provo at last night's meeting of the city commission. The Provo Legion boys started an employment bureau of their own last summer and have aided many men in getting employment. Later the Chamber of Commerce started an employment bureau and they, too, have done excellent work. The new city commission with Mayor O. K. Hansen at its head, started several city improvements at a critical time and have aiaed the employment question greatly. Commander Mart Roylance and the other Legion men of Provo feel more than grateful to all who have aided the men by giving them employment in time of need. Judge J. B. Tucker, in behalf of the American Legion, presented the certificate, a copy of which is printed elsewhere in this paper, and reads in part as follows: "The city of Provo, Utah, has earned the lasting gratitude of the nation." the certificate reads. "In a time of economic stress and industrial depression, she has furnished useful employment to all her veterans of the great war. "In acknowledgment of this patriotic service, the American Legion extends to all her citizens its thanks and appreciation." The certificates bear the signatures of Commander MacNider, National Adjutant Lemuel Bolles, and the state commander, Dr. B. W. Black, and adjutant of the commonwealth in which the awar dis made, Kirke M. Decker. The grand seal of the national Legion is affixed. Spanish Fork, too, has received the same commendation from the American Legion officials and is entitled to the same praise. INFANT COOK I i i i j j j Laboratories Co. P. O.
