The truth la now visible to all who will look : The United State is in revolution. A nasty word, "revolution." Bloodshed and death generally mark the path of revolt. But it is possible to have a peaceful revolution. We are. Our revolution is but part of a world-widreadjustment ftolnp on since the war. The peoples of nation after nation have been effecting economic and social changes. Ruaaia had to resort to the gun. So did Italy. Germany and Spain and Austria and France have lately spilled blood because of political and economic discontent. Just one thing saved the United States from taking that way to clean house. It was the Inauguration as Prenldent on March 4, 1933, of a man who knew that the nation's zero hour had come. It was time to go over the top. InEagles, 80 per cent of whom are worklngmen, have a three-folterest in the revolution that has come to the United States. First, the revolution Is directed against many of the very Injustices and abuses at which our Fraternity has atruck telling blows. Secondly, the revolution, If successful, will mean new leisure and more important greater security for the worker. Third, Eagles, having played a very definite part in inaugurating the revolution through our social and economic program, must now study and protect the gains the revolution is making. We must interpret the new hopes and aspirations and ideals to those who do not understand them. There is one effective way to do this. It is by understanding the ends sought and by bringing new members Into our Fraternity. Here, as Brother Eagles, they will catch the Hplrlt of practical humanity which Is the spirit of the New Deal. And they will put tlielr own shouldres to the wheel more surely to establish such portions of the revolution as concern the Stabilization of Employment and Old Age Pensions. Here, to the Editor's mind, are the chief facts about the bloodless revolution : The revolution is striking at the unequal distribution of wealth. Long before 1920, 90 per cent of the nation's wealth belonged to 10 per cent of the people. That left only 10 per cent of the wealth to be divided among 9o per cent of the people. Extreme poverty among millions, even in the days of our greatest prosperity, was1 the result. rresideut Roosevelt believes that this condition Is Unnecessary and unthinkable In a laud of plenty. When he talks about the New Deal, lie means a state of affairs In which extremes of poverty and extremes of wealth will not be tolerated. ItMh are uneconomic, create unhapplnesa, and disrupt the continuous flow of goods from producer to consumer. The New Deal has already exposed to attack the huge salaries, and bonuses paid bank and railroad and other corporation officials by companies that cut wages to the lame and suspended dividends. The New iH-a- l contemplates legislation to wipe out mien excessive salaries through taxation. The first move has been innde to control harmful speculation, not only on the stink exchanges but on commodity markets as well. This means thef ultimate end to stock gamHing profits and to the harmful practices that did so much to bring on the 1929 collapse. Coronations must in the future be content with a "reasonable" return on their investments. Where there are swollen dividends, part aiust be paid In wages and part In reduced prices to the consumer. Those who lend money must exject lower interest rates. Rocer Bab. son, noted eeonoinlat, furnishes shocking figures of our past profligacy. "Compound Interest at 6 per cent Is one of the basic causes of the present revolution." he writes in his latest book. Certain charts Indicate "that there is not enough net Income in the terms of goods to pay 3 per cent interest on the total world's Investment. If one of us owned all the wealth of the world and had bad all the annual income, we could get only about 2 per cent on our Investment. To put It another way, If three iersons should invest at random Jl.OuO each, it would be necessary for two to go without any interest In order for one to secure 8 per cent." But the revolution hoss to accomplish something besides the more economic distribution of wealth. All the money and goods could be parceled out, share and share alike, and we should soon again land In the same senseless Jam that has paralysed action fur four year. In some manner the four branches of industry manufacturing, agrluculture, commerce, and finance must be taught how to outwit the constant danger of over production and unemployment, and how to work togetht er as "good neighbors" Instead of competitors. Therefore we have the Industrial code, and the other government organlxatlons with alphabetical handles. Some are only temporary. Some will fall of their object. But cooperation Is definitely a part of our new economic The United States Supreme Court, In the majority opinion uplife. lu New York, laid down this principle; holding milk prlce-flxiu"Subject only to constitutional restraint, the private must yield to the i public need." The decorations were carried to perfection to an evening in Hawaii. Wliat a sight It was to see the girls In their finest dresses and the boys in their best attire. It gave every one a thrill to look at the sight of an evening in lovely Hawaii. The assembly given last Friday by the Junior class with their presl-d"iiJohn Sheya in charge was exceptionally enjoyable. They surely gave the boys and girls a rare treat. Three girls, known as the Blue Notes, who perform over the radio gave several numbers. Oh, you never heard such singing and such acting. It seemed as If one could listen to them forever. Then another treat was In store. Another group of radio performers, "The Happy (.'haps", sang several numbers. The students didn't seem to be able to get enough as they kept clawing for more and were rewarded by the chaps singing four numbers. We surely have to admit that the Juniors know how to get only the best for their assembly. t, It won't be long now before it will be the time for the track meet at Two and u half acres, 5 t house with basement, coop fof hens, feed and at raw room, gJ , work shop, family orchard With Choice assorted berries.
