Woodruff on Thursday afternoon, April 7, addressed the Conference. The Tabernacle was crowded. He spoke of the many vicissitudes that had marked his life: the many accidents he had suffered from; how, when three years old, he was nearly scalded to death; when 12 he was for half an hour under thirty feet of water; how shortly after he was almost frozen to death, and then bitten by a mad dog; how almost every bone of his body had been broken except his neck and his back; yet now, when nearly sl years of age, he was able to address a congregation of 10,000 or more people. He slso recited how more than fifty years asro the Lord showed him that the duty of opening and dedicating the Salt Lake Temple would devolve npon him. At the conclusion of his address the choir and vast congregation rose and sang. "We Thank Thee, O (!od. for a Prophet."
