Show 10 Hilltop T.mes COMMENTS Nov. 27, 1991 Leaders offer Thanksgiving messages President am wishes best for a send to delighted happy Thanksgiving to the men and women of the U.S. armed forces. Our thoughts and prayers are with you on this occasion. Today, we give thanks to Almighty God for the many blessings that he has bestowed on us. as individuals and as a nation. We thank him for the gift of life itself and for the extraordinary degree of freedom and security that we enjoy here in the United States. Of course, we should not celebrate the blessings of liberty without also acknowledging the courage and the sacrifices of those who have helped to defend our freedom. Thus, we also give thanks for each of you. Your efforts, along with those of the veterans who went before you, have enabled the light of freedom to burn brightly, not only in the United States, but also in countries around the world. Indeed, many of you serve in places far from home some of them marked by tension and danger. To those of you who will be spending this holiday away from family and friends, I offer a special salute. God bless you, and God bless the United States of America. George Bush n behalf of all Americans, I Secretary of aDefense when all of us hanksgiving is time reflect on our blessings and our hopes for the future. This year our prayers have a special meaning. All around the world, people faced historic challenges. As the year began, more than 30 nations came together, under American leadership, to defeat aggression in the Persian Gulf. Half a year later, millions of Russians, Lithuanians and others defied tyranny in the very heart of communism's old empire. Never have the blessings of liberty seemed richer. Never have our hopes for a better world seemed more real. For this, America owes a special debt to you, the men and women of our armed forces. U.S. troops have fought for liberty ever since our small republic declared its people ' important that we cherish our good fortune in life throughout tho year as we reflect on the free. This year, once again, our forces were asked to serve freedom to go in harm's way against a dangerous aggressor. Troops in the Gulf carried out their mission with professionalism and courage. Others among you watched over American security at bases here and around the world. Once again, you proved yourselves to be the finest armed forces in the world. I'm immensely proud to be associated with such a talented and dedicated group of people. The crises we have faced this year remind us that freedom does not come easy. Our defense takes long years of training and preparation. It takes the willingness of all Americans to stand up for our nation's principles and support our troops. And in the end, it takes soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines like you, who put on this nation's uniform and pay the price of freedom. Whether you were in the Gulf last winter, or doing the tough jobs here at home and around the world, you and your families have the gratitude of every American. To all of you, my best wishes for a happy Thanksgiving and my personal thanks for a job well done. The apples have been abun dant this year so we have had enough to juice, sauce, dry and box up for this winter. As I gaze upon the rows of amber juice and beautifully formed fruit, I get a rush of gratitude and thanks to a creator who is the source of all the fullness and goodness of life. What can I give in return? What are my gifts that I can share with those around me who are not as blessed with abundance as myself? I could share some of the very fruit I have been blessed with, or I could share other less tangible gifts love, listening, empathy, kindness all things others have shared with me in abundance. I hope that this Thanksgiving celebration can be a fulfillment of both thanks and giving recognition of our many, many reasons to be thankful.
