The Falcons, w ho were playing in their first tournament since winning the Utah Summer Games, ousted competitors from Tooele, Salt Lake and the Defense Depot Ogden. The Falcons got their first win early Aug. 23 with the hot bat of pitchercoach Jim Davis. Davis batted three homers and knocked in seven runs to help the Falcons route Super-wasslow-pitc- h ll h 15-- 6. Saturday the Falcons lost some of their opening day momentum, possi- bly due to the how ling winds that blew throughout the day, to the Tooele league champion, the new England Sox. The Falcons lost to the Sox The lone Falcon run again came from 8-- 1. Davis. The Falcons came back in a game later Saturday against Data Design. The infield combo of third baseman Rodney Johnson, shortstop Dan second baseman Bill Draper and first baseman Lee Tarrant turned four double plays as the Falcons shut out Data 10-- Harold Tucker and Greg Butikofer came through with key hits for the team to help in the win. Sunday, the Falcons started the day as one of only four teams left in the tourney. The winds were blowing again, but this time for the Falcons, as they erupted for 13 runs against Salt Lake's Bee Ready Mix. Leading 13-- after six, the Falcons Fran-coue- r, 0. 1 withstood a furious Bee rally to keep Dave their lead. F inal score was Kahm and Craig Matheson provided solid hitting to help the Falcons win. Then came a rematch with the Sox. The Falcons, looking to recoup some prestige after their earlier loss, went into the game ready for a fight. It wasn't until the sixth inning that the Falcons broke open a close game by scoring seven runs after the Sox issued an intentional walk. Don Cunningham had four hits in the 13-- 4 victory. With this win, the Falcons then faced Tooele's undefeated Greenstreet club for the championship. A three-rublast from Davis gave the Falcons a five-ru- n first inning. Greenstreet added runs in later innings, but the Falcons took the game 13-1- 1. n 8-- 5. Davis, Francouer and Draper were named to the tournament's all-st- ar team. The Falcons are preparing for their next tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho, in early September. SPORTS GLANCE Volleyball tryouts, practices set nights for six weeks. At the end of the six weeks, n the center plans to hold a tourney. The league is open to all active-dut- y military and Defense Department civilians and their family members 18 and older. To register, a team needs to stop by the gym and pay a $100 entry fee. Deadline to sign up is Sept. 20. League play starts Sept. 30. Soccer team Icicles off fall season The Hill AFB Strikers Soccer Club kicks off its fall season Saturday against the Oaks Soccer Club.
