TSSAM has been in development since 1986, the Air Force said. "We've come' to understand that after Desert Storm we may be a victim of our own successes," General Loh said. "In any future conflict, we're going to have to win with overwhelming advantage. "I don't think that the Congress, or the American people, will want to commit significant numbers of U.S. forces into a regional conflict where the prospect of losing thousands or tens of thousands of lives exists." Proper chairs or stools to provide relief from standing on hard floors is one example of "simple and inexpensive adjustments" that will benefit employee health in the long run and result in increased productivity almost immediately, the report said. The report also recommended that work surfaces be rearranged to promote proper posture of back, shoulder, arms and wrists. The use of non-sli- p gloves would reduce the force required to hold tools. Counterbalance devices support the weight of hand tools, leaving operators free to direct the tools with increased speed and accuracy, while decreasing body strain and damage. Any tasks or conditions that promote the opportunity for back injuries should be redesigned. "Another goal of the program is to provide train ing to virtually all levels of personnel within each of the affected directorates," said Colonel Postle-wait"Through the working group, training will be provided to everyone from directorate chiefs and commanders to workers in the shops. Everyone should know what ergonomics is and what benefits can be derived from its application, both in terms of productivity and long-teremployee health." OLcqvo progrom civcillcxislo 13.
