Show 10 COMMENTS March 15, 1991 Hiiirop Tirres Real heroes are those at home, says Team Stealth commander by Cel. Alton C. Whitley, Jr. 37;h TFW Corrrander SAL Dl ARABIA -- Wnv that the lighting of Operation Desert Storm is over, I'd like to take a moment to tell everyone at home how gratetul we, the people ot the 37th Tactical Fighter Wing, Provisional, or Team Stealth, are tor the outpouring or support we experienced over the last severe al months. Tonopah East operated at an tempo tor the duration ot the war and our accomplishments were nothing short of spectacular. Our operational location was overflowing with heroes at all levels and in everv area of responsi-bihtBut as we step back and smell the roses, mv purpose is not to tell you of our accomplishments, but to express our sincere "thank you" for vour role and dedication. Everyone here knows the real heroes of this operation were at home. The families made endless sacrifices brought on bv separation and new responsibilities. I suspect most of the militarv members who didn't have the opportunitv to deplov mav feel cheated or a little envious, but their professionalism came to the forefront as thev worked diligentlv and were equal! v spectacular in doing everything they could to ensure our eventual success. If I were the Inspector General evaluating your performance, I'd give you a "Best Seen To Date" across the board. lust remember, when you see the people in a free Kuwait waving the Stars and Stripes, thev are expressing gratitude to all Americans for reestablishing their opportunity for freedom and democracy. We should all be proud of our role regardless of where fate put us for the war. It's impossible to express the pride I feel to have commanded such an outstanding group of professionals through these historic times. They too are proud, of their individual accomplishments, but all-tim- v. SICI even more of what vou, the families, friends and fellow Americans, have done in their absence. Just as families and friends can't wait to express their gratitude and devotion to returning loved ones, deployed members are equally eager to get home and immerse themselves in their families and the American way of life. For many, it has been the first time abroad or the first time they've been separated from their family for so long, but it has certainly been an experience most will cherish now that it's about to be behind them. Team Stealth is no longer just a label, but a high water mark in aviation and military history. While just a year ago we couldn't utter the word "stealth" in public, we've now watched the dream of a decade ago evolve into a proven combat capability which helped bring this conflict to a rapid conclusion with relatively few losses. I can assure you that when the "black jets" rolled down the runway night after night on their way to Baghdad and points nearby, a little bit of each of you went with us. While we carried a variety of items on every mission for good luck-fro- m American flags to teddy bears to good ol' -- it was USA your dedication, love and prayers that we cherished most enroute to our ultimate success. It is imperative that each one of you remembers that in many ways we were the lucky ones -- able to do what we've trained for during our military careers and demonstrate the commitment that comes with the words "So help me God." Folks, the bottom line is we can't wait to get home and show you how grateful we are and how proud we are that you made this one of America's most successful military operations ever. Be proud of yourselves you're the real heroes. MERCHANDISE SKI BIBS ini (Womens, Mens, slight blems)..
