Show ACTION LINEEXT. 77000 Give us a longer dial time Would it be possible to extend the dial out time on the phones? We're on the phone continuously and it would be a big advantage if we had a little more time to dial out before the message comes on saying we have exceeded the time. Q A The base telephone switch is set up to provide five seconds for a caller to press a following digit while dialing. This is cumulative, providing a total of 25 seconds for a five-digphone number. Lengthening dial-ou- t time would adversely impact the overall capability to service calls on the base. I encourage callers to be prepared to dial the number once a dial tone is received. Many callers pick up the phone and then search for the number. Some phone devices are slow in providing initial dial tone and you must wait for dial tone before dialing. If it appears your phone is causing problems, report the problem to telephone trouble reporting at 119. 4 it Have patience with QI ID cost-effecti- Check IDs at child care center I use the Child Development Center on an occasional basis. Sometimes when I go to pick up my child, there is a different rerson behind the desk and tak ing care of her than when I dropped her off, yet I've never been asked for an identification to make sure that I'm the child's mother. Would it be possible to establish a policy to check IDs, especially those who only use the center occasionally, to make sure the child is not taken by the wrong person? The Child Development Center does have a policy takrequiring parents to identify themselves before in ing their child out of the center. As a commander I thought my military rank was equivalent to of that my active duty counterpart with respect to rights, privileges and responsibilities. This policy clearly separates our military status and sends the message that military reservists are less deserving or important than our active duty counterparts. As reservists, we are required to test every six months for physical fitness readiness, just like our active duty counterparts. To mandate that I join a club in order to use the gym during the day would be acceptable if my active duty counterparts were bound to the same re- reservist, much. It was a success in every way. There were a couple of moments at the start and end of the show that gave a special touch for our troops over in the Middle East. It was very nicely done. The show was well publicized in both the Standard Examiner and the Hilltop Times. Those responsible did an excellent job. The Clearfield High School auditorium allowed adequate seating as compared to previous years, when there was only one show at the Hill AFB Theater. It was a job well done by all and we sure appreciate it. Thanks a lot. quirements. I am proud to be a part of the military force that defends our great country. I agree to be ready in all aspects of my life should I be called to active duty. Physical readiness is part of this requirement. Welfare and Recreation Division card. Additionally, I should point out that MWR receives appropriated funding for athletics based on the number of active duty assigned, not on the Reserve population; therefore, additional funding is required to offset the cost of providing this service. The MWR card is the most efficient method of charging for this service. My family and neighbors enjoyed it very work with middle management still holding their positions? As you know, snow removal and personnel safety issues are everyone's business. I am aware that the officer mentioned has taken a very active role in supervising and participating in the volunteer snow removal duties that everyone in the organization shares. This particular manager uses his turn on the snowblower as a mental break from his administrative duties. He is also very concerned with keeping his work areas safe for employees walking through those areas, and personally gets involved with keeping the walkways safe. While it is a valid point that other workers can run the snowblower at a more wage, I am aware of this officer's involvement and concur with his activities and attitude of pitching in on a safety and volunteer effort. We will attempt to minimize his direct operation of the snowblower in the future in order to not give the impression of misalignment of duties. ALC The union gave written approval to convert this room into a wingfold storage area. I understand that this not only closes a smoking area, but also a lunch area. Let me address the smoking first. We are awaiting approval from the fire department to establish a smoking circle near this room (between docks 57 and 7) and there is currently an authorized smoking area to the south of the wingfold storage room, in the stairwell and hallway. As for a place to sit and eat lunch, there is seating in both of the base restaurant facilities in Bldg. 225. There are also plans to convert some area near the old F-- and module offices into smoking and lunch break areas. This project should begin within the next two weeks. ,v LINE. Mai. Gn. Do!. W. Please give your supervisor and chain of command the opportunity to work with you in job as an ID checker is not an easy one and yi itYour is an important one. For the most part, our patrons are very understanding and supportive of the duties required of an ID checker. Commissary patrons know that showing their ID card for entry is required. As an ID checker, you have the responsibility to control access to only those whose ID cards you have verified. Not allowing anyone to rush by you is the purpose for an ID checker. Should you have any problems, you should call for a red coat manager. Continue with your commitment for great customer service, and your patrons will become more patient. There is an officer in our organization who runs the snowblower on a regular basis when there is snow that needs to be cleared. I think it's a little strange that an officer does this when there are employees who are lower grades who could do it. It is not only a waste of money but it looks terrible. Can corrective action be QThe smoking 225 has been closed down. It was the only your comments 77000, AFB Commissary. Commissary employees do not know if they are going to be an ID checker when they go to work, and it is hard because they have more one than one thing to do. When people rush by with their IDs, it's hard to check the dates, names and pictures. I just wanted to point out that our job is not an easy one, and if everyone would slow down and be patient, everything would be a lot easier. When you call Ext. checkers IOD embodies many concepts including stxeamlin-- r ing and flattening organizations. This concept was and still is an objective of the development. However, as we have said all along, this will take time. Personnel rules preclude immediate removal of people even though positions are eliminated. As IOD continues, you will see more and more streamlining of our organizations but it must be done through normal attrition or realignment of workers. We appreciate your interest and solicit your support. Together we can make IOD work. 11 H.lStop Times Reopen smoking room in Bldg. 225 have a comment regarding the article printed on checking of identification cards at the Hill QHow Feb. 22. 1991 Why can't we get our coffee? can Folger's Coffee Crystals no longer be from the cafeteria for coffee machines? Will they be providing a substitute for it? There are some of us who prefer that coffee. QWhy ii"1 The base restaurant purchases and maintains a stock level only on items that offer at least a reasonable turnover ratio. Folger's Coffee Crystals do not meet this criteria. However, if you would like to contact the base restaurant at Ext. 72403 and place a special order for the product, they will be glad to accept the order. Why change the name? to combine Air Force Logistics with Air Force Systems Command will QThe proposal un- doubtedly be an excellent move. But why change the name to Air Force Materiel Command? Reading the mission of the AFSC, it is an integral part of the logistics process, "Getting the right part, at the right price, to the right place, at the right time." Has no one considered, in this time of rigid budget constraints, the time and money it takes to revise every single regulation, to redesign and manufacture logos, flags, stencils, letterheads, uniform patches, awards and manuals to change every existing reference to AFLC or AFSC to AFMC? I have to believe that the commanders in the AFSC are mature enough not to resent using the AFLC name. Their merging with AFLC enhances and augments the overall logistic mission. i Thank you for calling in your concern. You're cor-"rect; it will cost money to make this name change; however, I believe it's important to understand, at least what I perceive as, the need for starting fresh with a new name. We have received a personal video message from the secretary of the Air Force which was shown to all the directors at a recent staff meeting. In that video. Secretary Rice provided some of his rationale for making this change; he noted that what we have here is not a merger of one organization into another, but the phasing out of two organizations and the emergence of a new, streame lined command that will enhance manageof ment weapon systems. this new organization The danger here of not is the parochialism of carrying over one name or the other which could affect the perceptions of the newly united work force. I believe, and suspect the secretary does also, that the cost is well worth getting this new team off on the right foot. If you would like to see this video. Pet the Inspector General's office know and they will arrange for you to see m cradle-to-grav- existing system. By now, I'm certain you have heard that MWR now operates under one fund. Briefly, this means revenue generated in other activities clubs, golf course and bowling, for example is used to offset the cost of the athletic program and other MWR activities. Bottom line is, by holding an MWR card you are supporting all MWR activities, not just the clubs. Gate guards deserve respect Since they have started the 100 percent identification checks I have noticed that some people are rude to the guards at the gate. Would you remind everybody that the guards don't deserve to have people swear at them and treat them like that? Q Jf I Thanks for your call. It is a good reminder. that I agree we all need to have patience and work with our security police. Is 'women only' QIs area necessary? it really necessary to have a "women only"' area at the Hess Fitness Center? Often when the co-e-d room is crowded, you can go down there and nobody is using that equipment. It seems to me that the equipment would be put to better use if that area were co-e-d also. Thank you for your comments. The fitness center staff has been monitoring the use of the "women only" area and it is not being fully used. The equipment will be relocated to the West Area Fitness Center in the near future. "1 Supervisor discourages donation was reading in the Hilltop Times about your drive and wanted to participate.
