According to Mrs. Hobby we are presently carrying on a losing battle to keep up with the need for additional classrooms. For instance lesearrh reveals that we need Immediately at least 340,000 additional school classrooms, plus recreation .administration and other facilities to care for children now of school age. We are only building approximately 50.0U0 new classrooms each year, while at our present rate of growth we actually need 117,000 new units per annum to even maintain the present status quo. Thus we not only have need for third qf a million classrooms, but we are actually falling behind an additional 67.000 classrooms each and every year. Fantastic Growth Of Population The population of the United States is now growing by leaps rate of 11,000 and bounds at births every single day and will exceed 175 million by the year I960, This means that every 60 days our national growth is about equal to .the total population of the state of Utah, or In one year would be equivalent to the present combined population of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado. New Mexico and arizona. In UUh our problem is even more acute because we have not only grown as a result of great Influx of pop ulation as we have expanded Industrially, but we also have b'rth rate of 32.9 per thousand as compared to the national average of 24.0, and our death rate is only 7,4 compared to a national average of 9.7 per thousand.
