Hilltop Aquatic On March 18, 19 and 20, the Hilltop Aquatics Swim Team (HAST), closed out their 1998-99 season with a second place e finish at the Age Group Swim Championships held at the University of Utah Natatorium. They are coached by Janet Short-cours- Oles, Kevin Dickerson, Ron Lockwood, Jeff Greiner and Rachael Schumacher. To qualify to participate in the Utah State Championship Meet, swimmers had to meet demanding qualifying time standards in each of the age groups. Usually only 40 swimmers or less statewide from each age group qualify for the final meet. HAST state qualifiers included 10 and Under girls: Lara Kristina Baird, Christensen, Shantell Durrant, Courtney Stone, Rachael Williams and Audra Yocum. Smith, seventh; K. Smith, 12th; and Williams, 13-1- 4: third. State championship first place finishers were, in Boys C. Kleinman, 50 fly, :28.77; 50 Free, :25.88; 50 back :30.06 and 100 fly, 1:05.34; 200 yd. free relay, 1:49.02 and 400 yd. free relay, 4:05.86 (Butler, Colborn, Hanson, Kleinman), 200 yd. medley relay 2:05.86 (Colborn, J. Greiner, Hanson, Kleinman). In Boys 10 and Under: Z. Mendenhall, 50 breast, :39.05. In Girls 10 and Under: 200 yd. free relay, 2:06.46 (Baird, 11-1- 2: Christensen, R. 1:21.59. Williams); breast, Durrant, Williams, 100 Of special note was the 11-1- 2 free, 400 free and 200 medley relay teams. All met the qualifying times for entry in the prestigious Far Western Swim Meet held the first week of April in Pleasanton, Calif. Baird, Butler, J. Greiner, C. Kleinman, Mendenhall and Williams also earned individual qualifying times for Far Westerns. Only the fastest swimmers from the western United States swim there.
