These two evenly matched teams should really be involved in a barn burner with Alicia Trujillo and Jari Secretan providing a good, fast offensive game for the Marlins and Josh Hansen and Trevor Pulley hitting the ball extremely well for the Padres. In the Bronco League, we find potential hall of famers in Cody Marrs and Joshua Whaley of the White Sox going up against the Mets future hall of famers Chase Worthen and Cody Barker. On June 7, 1997, Shumway began hiking the Great Western Trail, from one border to the other, raising funds for literacy. The Great Western Trail, which reaches from Canada to Mexico, passes through American Fork Canyon and along the west side of Mount Timpanogas. This large trail corridor provides recreational opportunities for backpacking, horseback riding, y skiing, mountain cross-countr- bike riding, snowmobiling, and ATV riding. Shumway kicked off her solo hike at the Canadian border, near Glacier National Park, and" expects to pass through the Utah County area sometime during August. Her hike is expected to take most of 1997 to complete. "I love to hike and see the countryside," she explained. "I feel strongly about doing something to help more people to learn to read. This is my way." Lynne hopes to raise thousands of dollars for literacy. Lindon. SALT LAKE VALLEY GMC To "I know I should be exercising, but how can I find the time?" Amidst our highly technological society and the many responsibilities of life I find many individuals making such comments. Loading a ll package of toilet paper or even a 50 lb. bag of dog food into the grocery cart hardly compares with our previously active lifestyles of hunting, gathering and farming. With individuals and families trying to achieve "The American Dream," it is difficult to have enough time to attain an appropriate balance. Yes, our technological age has brought many benefits of efficiency and productivity, however, it's ironic that technology has also brought some "incriminating evidence" to the table. Conclusive research has proven the benefits of exercise: Increased energy and pro ductivity. Improved psychological and physical Increased longevity. Increased ability to deal effectively with stress. Improved appearance. Decreased cardiovascular and other diseasescondi tions. While the "muscle heads" and "gym rats" have and will always work out in even the most deplorable conditions, the executives, elderly and are quite reluctant to take advantd informaage of this tion. How ironic! The best educated individuals in society don't even take advantage of the volumes of research (no one can claim ignorance now) that could truly transform the quality of their lives. While developing our sales projections for our health club in American Fork, I came across an interesting statistic: approximately 10 of a given market belongs to a health club. This says nothing about the percentage of people that actually work out the recommended minimum of three times per week. Why is this? Cost? I doubt it. Memberships to health clubs average approximately $1.00 per day. Other options? I'd feel much better about this statistic if I knew 725 West 3300 South Salt Lake City, UT Make your best deal and then present this ad lor LF2-your $1 00 cash refund or rebate Buy Now and Save for Father's Day well-bein- Free Estimates Insurance Work Personal Care Quality Paint Frame Specialists Trained Technicians fir DeR W & Jolene Green 1 lifitmiyr. In addition, over the years I've noticed that the loyal exercisers are often those that need regular exercise the least. It's the Cindy Crawfords and Arnold Schwarzeneggers that are working exercise into their busy schedules. Irony is a common occurrence in life. At the completion of a mission I decided that I wanted to learn more about car repairs and make a little money before returning to the rigors of football and school at BYU. As the surprisingly friendly mechanics began transforming me from minister to mechanic, I noticed something interesting: their cars were the worst maintained cars I'd ever seen. These people who spent hours repairing cars and advising individuals on how to keep their cars running effectively, had the worst maintained cars. Why is it that the educated executives, successful individuals who have the best access to information, don't take advantage of it' It's this: IT TAKES A LEAP OF FAITH. I know, you've got the "kiddie shuttle" to run, business and church meetings to attend, assignments, projects, familial bonding. But let me assure you, it's worth it. Ride that bike for 30 minutes. Walk those two miles around the minutes neighborhood. The that you spend exercising will bring huge rewards and you'll find your balance restored. You'll find a missing link that helps you be more effective in all areas of your life: spiritual, mental financial, professional, social. Don't let the irony of tech nology prevent you from attaining greater heights. It takes the leap of raith, but the view is tremendous.
