They are now 3 on the season and ranked second behind 12-Pine View of St. George in the state third-ranke- 57-5- 0 9-- 2 high school coaches' poll. Braden Cooper led the offensive attack for the LHS five with 18 points. Jason Childs added 8, followed by Mike Christofferson and Seth Sunderland with 6 each. Luke Magnusson, Jason Yates and Scott Thayn each accounted for five points and Kelton Butterfield tallied three for the night. Three-poishooting for both teams accounted for 15 points each. Sunderland, Cooper, Butterfield, Childs and Thayn each had one trey. For the Cougars, Jeff Davenport's 18 matched Cooper and included one trey. Ross hit three treys for the home team and Dye added one, but the Pioneer balance proved the difference in the contest. Lehi totaled 12 field goals including the five treys compared with Union's 9 (5 threes). From the line, the Pioneers hit 67 percent with 19 of 29. The Cougars shot 17 of 30 from their charity stripe. If it is rescheduled, Gavin indicated the match would probably take place on Jan. 23. Uintah brings an enviable record into the Lehi matchup after having won their own tournament last week at Vernal. Gavin feels that the Utes are the team to beat for the state title even though Wasatch is ranked sixth nationally by Center Mat magazine. "The Utes are deep and can score at any weight," according to Gavin.
