Show Citizen, Press, Review - Wed., March 1, 1995 Page 10 'Who dun it keeps audience on edge of seats By BARBARA CHRISTIANSEN I may as well admit it -- 1 truly enjoy community theater. And that's one of the reasons I have appreciated almost all of the offerings Fve seen locally in the last few years. But the American Fork Arts goes far beyond what I would have hoped for. Without needing any concessions for "A for effort," the dinner theater offeringis a winner. Noted as the longest running play in the history of theater, the classic Agatha Christie murder mystery has all the elements -plot, suspense, characterization and comedy. And American Fork's version of the play needs offer no excuses. While not the London stage, its rendition brings together such a fine group of actors it's hard to picture the roles being played any better. Christian Adams steals any number of scenes with his Bringing comicrelief to the scene of a murder and great tension, he also adds a touch of warmth. Tia Brewster is Miss Casewell and Audra Moss portrays Mrs. Boyle, two other guests at the Monks well Manor guest house outside of London. Both performances are outstanding, bringing two very different, but both stinging versions of tartness to the scenes. One other scheduled guest is Major Metcalf, portrayed by Lon Keith. He plays the part rather low key and keeps the audience guessing. Owners of thehome are Gayliene Omary as Mollis and Marc Haddock as her husband Giles Ralston. They portray the couple convincingly as they learn more about each other as they are nearing their first anniversary and beginning opera tion of the guest house. Ablizzard hits just as the couple is bringing in their very firstguests. The storm also brings Tony The Lehi Arts Council-sponsore- d group, "Bridges," is lookingfor boys ages 14 to 18 who are interested in the performing arts. Auditions will be held at Mt. Ridge Junior High School, Room C118, 5525 W. 10400 North, Highland, on March 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. All boys need to come Paravacini who has taken refuge in the guest house as his car is sup- posedly stranded. During the introductory stages, members get to know each other on a superficial basis, displaying their quirks and presenting a touch of humanness. Ifs enough to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, which brings me to the only drawback of the evening. The chairs, while perfect for dining, were never intended for viewing a drama. The discomfort is almost enough to distract from the plot. Presented at Alpine Country Club, which provides a nice dinner for the $15 per person combination price, the play runs Thursday through Saturday, with dinner beginning at 7 p.m. Those wishing reservations may contact Lori England at Dean Cranney as Detective Sergeant Trotter joins the group, offering the ominous warning that a murderer may be among them, waitingto strike. At times his characterization doesn't seem to fit the content of his communication, but it's not too distracting. One of the group is indeed found murdered, bringing the others to the realization that there is a veritable danger. The emotions run the gamut as the members learn about 763-308- 1.
