Show This subdivision was to be named Sugar City, but it was never built. The Lehi factory operated until the fall of 1923, when it closed due to the lack of beets. Reports indicated the farmers had literally worn the soil out to the point where it could not produce beets longer. At that time, farmers were not familiar with modern farm practices such as crop rotation, nor did they have the use of commercial fertilizers. It should also be pointed out that in the early days, beet production was very hard work, with most of the operation done by hand from ihe thinning and blocking in the spring to the back breaking job of lopping the beets in the fall by using a beet knife. Of late, most of ihe hard work of beet production has been eliminated by the invention of machinery and chemicals. At the J A.
