Show ACTIVE TIMES - OCTOBER 15, 1995 - 11 LETTERS TO THE TIMES LITTLE “MISS KITTY” Dear Friends and HEY, WHAT’S On Oct. 14th, saturday night traffic, near Chamisa (Carlsberg) and Castle Neigh bo rs, HAPPENING? I appreciate the opportunity this Valley Drive, put out the light of a precious little spirit, and left the hearts of Don & Yogic Bowthorpe shattered. We have enjoyed “Miss Kitty.” a small, 7 lb. Australian Sitkey Terrier, for the past 6 years. She has her own dog run and rarely escapes her area. I do blame myself for her getting out. However, if the speed limit was 25 mph, like most small towns, and OBSERVED, this personal loss may have been prevented. PLEASE, PLEASE SLOW paper affords me to make known my intent and desire to campaign for the position as your four year Castle Valley Town Council representative. My name is Dave Wagstaff. I have lived on Cliffview Dr. since 1980. I many, I am their personal contact to the Valley. They read in the Castle Valley Times of division. They get letters. I hate to admit the fact, but I have have helped raise two daughters in this valley, so I’m intimately familiar with the problems and possible solutions associated with the schooling of the children in CV. I served on the POA board in the capacity of roads supervisor DOWN--it could have been a child, and may well be next time. Over the past year and half, I have been asked many times by my out of town customers: “Hey, what’s happening in Castle Valley?” For b.a. (before asphalt). So I realize that roads aren’t born, but rather are created not attended any of the community meetings during all this period. But I do meet with elected officials and other active citizens on a regular basis. But where is this “us and them;” “UnitI and Unit II groups;” “the IN group;" etc. coming from? And why? Don Bowthorpe through effort, planning, and direction. To Whom It May Concern (And you know who you are) I can’t be as diplomatic as Don. You have wounded us deeply and I am very angry. The loss of our silly little dog is traumatic enough, but I have no choice but to conclude you are of little moral fiber or decent human characterbased on 1) you did not try to stop, before or after you ran over her (no skid marks); 2) you didn’t have enough concern to remove her off the road, preventing her from being repeatedly run over; and 3) you made no effort to find out where she belonged. I cannot fathom your actions or your lack of action. Nothing short of a medical emergency can justify you. And perhaps thinking you ran over a rabbit or shunk does NOT excuse you. Avoid me for I believe I ’ll know who you are when I see your eyes. Yogic Bowthorpe I served on the commitee to explore the idea of incorporation. Later, I filled a seat on the planning commission during the formative years of the zoning ordinance. Having thus experienced the before and after of bureaucratic intrusion, I feel as though I’m sensitive to, and sympathetic with the feelings of those who feel the sting of “property rights” curtailment, and to those of us who are fearful of the potential for power abuse by those who are entrusted I think I now know one of the reasons: Insensitive to communication. Quick to ram your opinion through at the expense of dialog or even attempting to discredit an opinion differing from your own. For elected officials or community volunteers this is even worse. They are elected or in positions of service for the community and to its citizens. The citizens are the input sources. That is the democratic way of life. That is the way it used to be in Castle Valley. Are the officials and volunteers “us” to function as our elected officials. I hope to bring to the council those and the citizens “them?” I surely hope elements of commitment and integrity not. that have so exemplified those persons who have proceeded me. I also hope to exhibit those qualities of impartiality the citizens to be honest with each And of course, it is important for and fairness that will be crucial to the other and respect differing opinions. That is healthy. After the dialog, debate; future development of Castle Valley. go with the consensus. I solicit your support and thank you one and all for your cooperation and understanding Sincerely, Dave Wagstaff Move on, Joe Kingsley PLANTS FOR THE CANYON COUNTRY Fruit Trees, Shade Trees Perennials, Ground Covers Lawn Seed FREE CASTLE VALLEY DELIVERY CANYON NURSERY Call 259-8274 275 Williams Way Dali-5:. a IRRIGATION HEADQUARTERS _ |
