We like to listen to Christmas music and read holiday stories. We light lots of candles. We get together with friends. We visit our far-flung families. We decorate our houseplants. We make pomanders. —Alice Christmas programs and parties that we used to have. And while we can no longer participate we feel it would bring the community closer to do something along this line. —Martineaus - Drumming up the full moon (18th this year). Celebrating the Celtic holiday(s). Winter Solstice. Thinking of each person warmly, lovingly, as I send them a card with a personal message. bread & stuffed pastry pears & dining with friends after a hike or bike ride. —Sheri Simmons They appeared dimensionless out of the north with glistening runners and voices of bells, their way opened by candles and rich with the scent ofpine. Alighted, shapes formed—— The Child, Santa Claus, Mother and Father, our own children, grandchildren, every precious thing— singularly blessing, becoming a part of me, merging beyond containing, flying away on glistening runners in the light of everlasting candles with voices of bells. - Baking pannettone - To have brunch and then go ski. Cold in the north wind, sustained by rememberedfragrance, I wait another coming. - This is the season to hike. Not too hot, not But that was in the old days when we all lived in the same town. —Maria too many other people around. I - My great grandmother came from Norway. it was a tradition with her (handed down to us) that an almond be put in the “mush” (cooked cereal) Christmas morning. And there was an extra present for whoever found the almond in their dish of cereal. it is a good way to get children to eat on Christmas morning. Now I don’t need it with Frank. We mostly just enjoy our families and their love and happiness. We do miss the community chocolates in the house. love to be outside on these crisp sunny winter days. At this time of year I love to have a box of fancy - Holidays bring families together that are sometimes separated other times of the year. We alternate gathering at family homes, and are sure to worship at church for the thrilling Christmas Eve service. - Being together. Major cooking & baking sprees. Spending time alone, listening to carols, favorite seasonal tapes, being quiet, concentrating on peace within and without. Spending time with family and friends, being boisterous or quiet together, singing carols. Being jolly. The cheap lovely surprises, spontaneous acts of kindness and beauty, get-togethers. Saying a certain poem, sitting at night in the dark and looking at a lighted tree. Wrapping presents, writing cards to dear friends. Traditions: Christmas eve programs when everyone takes a turn, delicious anticipation of magic, Christmas morning hot milk before opening presents. Feeling new at New Years. —-Cris |
