Permanent Residence Above all else, moving here has been a lesson in community. In thefirst week alone: Jim and Sally come help us with an injured pet and even take him to their vet, which explaining the philosophical differences in our community. Some people define the issues that threaten to divide our community. It would be the first suspect others are trying to sink the step in resolving them, either through boat by cutting holes in the bottom. Others fear they will be forced to row in unison towards some unwanted destination. And everybody wants to be the Town Council or community-wide captain, but nobody wants to wear the voting. The only cure for seasickness is to get off the boat and onto some common ground. Charles Kulander captain’s hat. It’s enough to make a person seasick. I suggest we beach this boat on the nearest reef, get ourselves on dry land, H u rrah! and deal with the core issues that After a year of excavation, concrete underlie this ongoing debate. We will never come to agreement regarding individual rights vs. community responsibility. But we should be able to reach a consensus on the specific concerns that provoke this philosophical quarrel. The trick is in defining what those issues are. Is it multiple saves his life. .. Sarah and Mara and Heather and Chloe and Chris make dwellings on a single lot? Do certain Katrina (8-1/2) and Hal (15-1/2) feel provisions of the rules and regulations welcome and in the thick of things . . . 30 seconds after our gas hose breaks on CV Drive, Carrie drives up and offers a ride . . . Bruce fixes the hose and Ed lands us tools . . . we bump into Livi all over Moab who welcomes us with her need to be enforced or revised? One way to come up with these specific issues is to hold a community- wide town hall meeting this summer. My house is finally going up! pours, and more than enough waiting, the walls of my house are up. I want to give a special thanks to Warren and Jack for helping me build the walls, Jill, Kathy, and Jake for helping raise and secure them, Mara for taking pictures, and Yogi for faxing my lumber orders. And to my unknown admirer(s) who decorated the walls with toilet paper streamers (a custom of appreciation and affection, I've been told), thanks for the "congratulations." Joan Using a mediator, perhaps we can dazzling smile . . . Eleanor and Ann and Wilma and Sally offer food and hearth and friendship . . . Cris brings permaculture info and Maria sunflower seeds . . . Bill andEdand Samandlim and Bruce and Niles show Randy the ropes . . . Don takes time after a long meeting to talk to us about water studies . . . Jil, Leslie, Michael, Ann C., Denise, Joan, and Jack offer welcome and a hand where needed . . . Cynthia and Bruce bail us out of collapsing foundations, leaking skylights, broken washing machines, and other household disasters . . . and everyone goodnaturedly tolerates the brayings of a lovesick mule. We are here for the duration. We joke (and mean it) that the only other plot of land we intend to buy is in the CV cemetery. Our hope is to give much back over the years to this community that has already given us a great deal.
