Show 1 .... t March 9, 1933 TILE parm and Home News ,a d sed 10 a fca8 a cerminatlnn if Percent, test f f Eho LEI II FREE PRESS . Thursday, March 9, proclaimed throughout the land. Al-tseveral optimists kept telling us the depression was over, the fact still re mains that the proof that It was over did not exist. The action brought, about by the states may have been avoided for a time, but It la doubtful that under such a system that depres--j sion would ever have ended. The local tanks are as sound as ever, and prob-abl- y a lot sounder. There is not much doubt that the banks after the adjustment will be more sound, and indirectly the people can then develop the much needed trust of confidence in them and quit hoarding. In the future is clearly seen more governmental control. The government in the past has tried to avoid connection with private enterprises, and the result Is that distrust and panic has been born Into the minds of the people. Public Ownership In the past public control has been attacked in all things that could possibly succeed through other means. Much of this Is probably due to certain powers that have been prominent In the capitalistic system. An Interesting thing has been brought out In this depression Is that the foremost In opposition, public ownership, has succeeded In many cases and is aiding many communities. In Norwak, O., the municipally owned electric light plant has cancelled all charges for February. Its profits and surpus are sufficient to permit that. In Cleveland, the municipal light plant, bucking up against a large utilities corporation, earned 1700,000 In 1932 and added 700 customers. Some western towns have no municipal taxes this year, and our own state is not unrepresented among these, because their publicly-owne- d plants support them. ho germination of less than 80, hesitate to Slant tmm . , ... v otoj supply. If the stain seems at all stubborn, Changs the suds and rub the fabric gently between the hands occasionally. often, then wash out For fabrics that cannot be washed, the material may be treated with gasoline.
