HAMMOND GIVES HELPFUL HINTS TO LEHI SCOUTERS Scout executive Hammond of the Salt Lake Council rave an interesting talk in the preliminary exercises of the Mutual Ueneaiogcai union meeung last Sunday when he related incidents of value of scouting, but he gave more interesting and more beneficial talk in the scout and vanguard division after separation into the in- structonal classes. In fact the whole period was used to give instructions, beginning with a report of record keeping by Robert Phillips who brought his record book along and explained it to tne group, Scoutmaster Phillms recommended a uniform program, planned by the troop committees and scoutmasters throughout the stake, with uniform records. This matter will be again Mr. taken up in the near future. Phillips' report was followed by a re port from Dentist R. G. Jones who had been assigned by the executive board of the Lehi stake to Investigate a year's program for the stimulation of scouting in the community. John Hutchings gave a report on the Lehi standing in the Timpanogos Council which showed that with the exception of one troop there has been a decrease in membership in every troop, during the year of 1932. Although there has been a decrease in membership in the the last year it was reported that the Lehi stake prospects look better than ever before. It is properly designated as the Soldiers, Sailors and Marines' Building, but it also serves a three fold purpose, a memorial hall for the veterans of the great war, a city hall and a public library. Of much interest are the war time equipment and pioneer relics that are The two kept in the Relic room. machine guns that herald peace by silence attract much attention as they welcome the examination of the people at the east entrance, and now marks the dawn of another attraction for the people to appreciate. The old pioneer monument that has been receiving the roughness of the school children as well as the uncare and abuse of others, is telng moved from the west side of the block to the east and will be placed between the memorial building and the school tennis courts, to take a permanent place among the other historic features in a place where it can be appreciated and taken care of. The present plan is to surround the monu- ment next spring by a lily pond and continue the memorial ground plant- ing up to the tennis court. Such an addition will be of great benefit to Lehi in a way of attraction to the "outsiders," for it will be remembered that half the beauty of the "Gull" monument on the temple grounds and the Mormon Battalion monument on the state capitol grounds are in the ponds that surround them.
