Unpredictable from start to finish, the unusual plot centers on a series of violent murders in Los Angeles. Police detective Michael Nouri understandably wants to get to the bottom of all this mayhem, but has no idea where to start. Enter "FBI agent" Kyle MacLachan, who has been tracking this mysterious killer from an unworldly origin. That's where the fun begins and the plot synopsis ends. The twists and turns in Bob Hunt's ingenious script are numerous, as Nouri and MacLachan (two minor actors who deliver performances) track their interchangeable prey through the L.A. streets. The film benefits from a strong ensemble of fine actors, highlighted by a pair of excellent performances by Olympia Dukakis and Vincent Gardenia (as Cher's parents). Cher also proves once again that she is a talented comedienne who has a flair for raised eyebrows and sharp dialogue.
