Mildred Yardiey Father's Day is celebrated each year to honor our Father's ever since the President set a certain date in June. It seems Fathers are a little shy when he is given a Father's Day gift and special programs are held to honor him. This is the day we should tell all our Father's how much they are appreciated. It is Father's that work hard to give his family every advantage of going to college or on missions. Mothers wipe a team from her eyes as they get ready to leave home, but it's the dad who pats his son or daughter on the back and says how proud he is of them for taking the big step. He also like to hunt deer, especially at Minersville and Beaver. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for many years in Milford. He was transferred to Las Vegas, Nev., where he retired ahd moved to St. George. He had never succeeded at quitting smoking until he was 75 years of age and heard on TV when someone said, "if you can quit smoking for 48 hours, you can quit." Heber said, 'I think I'll try that." He did and won. The Spectrum ran a special on him for this. Heber is survived by his wife of St. George; children: Penny & Scott Brown, Cedar City; Adele & Roger Murdock, Beaver; Barbara & Mike. Parry, Karen & Kevin Leavitt, both of Las Vegas Nev. and Linda & Paul Strolel Palisade, Colo.; 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; one Ruth sister: Gillins Hayward, Ely, Nev.; one brother: Clark Gillins, Minersville. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 2, 2001 at the Minersville 2nd Ward Chapel.
