The superlative furniture group shown here is of bleached maple. The simple figuring of the wood is in keeping with the flowing lines of the furniture. The dark carpet provides pleasing contrast with the light tones of bleached wood. Most conspicuous feature of the design is the large mirror, with glass shelf, of the vanity. The bench and night stand are added niceties. Furniture of this type is being displayed on the floors of furniture dealers who are participating in Tremonton's "Better Bedrooms Week." PATRONIZE YOUR LOCAL MERCHANTS We are getting a great deal for our money by expecting the federal government to do more and more for us, in many cases much more than we would get if we spent the money ourselves. To furnish these extra ser vices the government either must have mere money or go into debt. If the country goes farther and farther into debt indefinitely, the only result can be the inevitable inflation with its terrible effects. These are the views Dr. Dilworth Walker, well known economist and professor at the University of Utah, revealed in a speech to a summer session audience. "This socialization of our spending does not mean getting less for our money, but rather getting less of the money we earn. The government takes ten out of every hundred dollars we earn and says 'Now you can spend the rest,, " the university man told his audience. "We get more for our money in most cases, public roads, for instance. With road building being transfered from individuals, towns and counties to states and the federal government, we got ten miles of good rond for what we used to pay for one mile." "Nevertheless, increased governmental operations cost money. The federal government is just like a family; if it hasn't enough money to pay for all it buys, it must either charge it or borrow money, which practice has raised the national debt to over thirty seven billion dollars." Because of improved business conditions in the last four years, governmental income of the fiscal year just ended is almost double the income of the fiscal year of 1933-3- 4 But the additional expense of more departments and bureaus, doubled appropriations for national defense, greater payments to veterans, more Interest on the national debt, and extra spending for public works programs, unemployment relief, the CCC, the AAA and its substitute measures have been sufficiently heavy to make this the seventh year of continuous cencu. This is only a detail in house planning but it looms important when the structure is completed. Sizes of the various pieces of furniture should be remembered at all times. Large pieces of furniture should never be placed against a window. Another matter that should be considered is the stock sizes of rugs and carpets. It is aggravating to find that a room ia a few inches too short to take a suitable stock-sizfloor covering. If the same reasoning is correct in o governmental affairs, since the come of the federal government is about six billion a year, a national debt of more than twelve or fifteen billion is higher than it should be. That means the government will either have to get more income, cut the debt, or face the undesirable re- in-g- trg I e Light in Closet It always Is to have light and plenty ot In a closet.
