They have three lines of traffic here, the elevated trains, the surface, and the underground subways. In some of the heavy traffic districts there are as many as three levels of underground trains. It is surely amusing to watch them handle the people during rush hours, 5 to 7 P. M. At this time most of the city workers are going home from work, and one can hardly imagine where all the people come from. Trains run about a minute apart and the people are load ed In like cattle. To hear the shouts of the station attendents and watch the crowding masses of people crowd ing and pushing to get on and off the cars, reminds me of some of my past experiences of trying to load thirty five head of cattle in a car where there was only room for thirty, or a stock yard scene where men are trying to load a mass of bewildered and sulky sheep.
