The geyser in Yellowstone that seems to be the most popular is Old FaithfuL The department of the interior, national park service, states: "Ever since its discovery, in 1870, it has not failed to send up a graceful shower of jets at average intervals of 60 to 75 minutes. Its beauty is ever varying, as wind and sunlight play upon it, and the mound about its vent is adorned with delicately tinted basins of salmon, pink, and yellow filled with limpid water whose softness is enticing. Visitors who go there and see no other geysers in action, feel well repaid for the journey if they see Old Faithful. The Castle geysers are the most beautiful in the park. Its cone is formed of exquisite coral colored Its eruptions are followed by loud roars that can be heard for miles. At one time the Excelsior geyser was the grandest of the whole world. Its one grand outburst sent an immass of water, to mense a height of over 200 feet. Unfortunately this, monarch of all geysers has ceased to erupt. Next to the geysers, perhaps the most interesting things are the bears. The bears hibernate during the win ter and while in the dormant state, give berth to young, which weigh from six to ten ounces. The young are born without hair and they cuddle closely to their mother until spring. As a rule the femals bears give birth to young every third winter. Just before the bears hibernate they eat bark from trees; this remains in the stomach during hibernation and thus prevents it from shrinking. In the spring they are able to eat only roots and grass for a while. If the bears are unmolested they The cinnamon, the are harmless. black bear are very greedy; they steal camp supplies whenever they get a chance, but they are usually playful and friendly. It is a wise plan not to feed them, because they will sometimes bite the fingers. The "hold-up- " bears, as they are called, will stand in the middle of the road and will not let cars pass until they are given something to eat. Bv far the most marvelous coloring one will ever see is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone Park. Standing upon Inspiration Point, one may see the beautiful lower falls of the the height of Niagara d Falls, rustling out of the hills, pouring downward from the point to where you stand. You may see the steep slopes dropping on Second YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK By far the most interesting things about Yellowstone National Park are the geysers. There are more geysers in the park than in all the rest of the world together. It might be interesting to know, first of all, the source of heat of the geysers. At a lecture I attended up at Mammoth Hot Springs, the naturalist stated that the supply of heat is derived from great masses of cooling lava.
