The aging process optimizes the message database and frees both disk and processor resources in supporting the current workload at Hill AFB. Each Saturday, a mailbox manager utility scans base mailboxes and deletes all messages 300 exceeding days in age. These aging scans have been progressing so well that approximately 1 2 G B of mail older than 300 days, have been purged with little or no negative consequence to the user. We have seen excellent system performance gains as a result. The scan on July 14 will be like the initial scans for 360 days and 300 days. It won't permanently delete messages exceedthe messages will be moved ing the day limit to the deleted items folder in the mailbox, allowing the user an additional week to archive or file any needed messages. On July 21 and each Saturday after that, the mailbox manager utility will permanent delete messages exceeding 240 days. When message retention is required beyond the current age limit, move or permanently archive these messages in Personal Storage folders. Contact a Functional System Administrator or Exchange Administrator for help in creating or using a personal storage folder. Regular and periodic backups of personal storage files are encouraged to protect against catastrophe.
